Unorganized, the grading is completely unfair, makes you memorize 35 vocab words and only takes 10 of those but you have write at least a Page worth for each vocab word to get at least a 4 out of 5.

Get ready to type a 10 page essay about his book . The class is all about him,his past, and where he is from. You learn nothing about Chicanos. Has 2 exams at the end of the semester, makes you memorize 35 vocab words, only picks 10 , doesn't tell you which ones & makes you explain them in paragraph form.

I highly do not recommend to take the class, not a great professor. Although, Chicano Studies is an amazing subject to learn, not by this professor. Those who rated this professor high, didn't mind his rudeness and harsh grading.

From my perspective, he was very rude and un-professional as a professor. He always had rude comments and disturbing jokes that were completely off topic. Class was easy,but must have enough time on your plate to take the class. if you don't speak Spanish, he will make you feel uncomfortable and a outsider. In my opinion,I wouldn't retake the class

He gives ectra credit, only have a midterm and a final, half the final is take home, one paper on the book he wrote, since we took the midterm 2 weeks before the final he didnt discuss the final as much, watch movies a lot. Didnt learn much.

Honestly I wouldn't take his class again. He seemed more focused on selling his books, which were really expensive. His way of teaching, he has a different perspective, like the class seemed more focused on his biography rather than Chicano culture. Yes it's an easy A, but I didn't learn anything or got anything from this class.

Take Ornelas if you want an easy A! His class objective isn't complicated at all -- one midterm and one final! The secret in passing the class is to actually read the book and read the powerpoints that he provides for you! - It's up to you to decide on what you want for your grade. Oh, and expect to memorize and rehearse events and vocabularies.

First and foremost if you dont speak Spanish, this class might feel intimidating. Its hard to comprehend what he is discussing in the class. The class is not hard but if youre not a History major, its completely boring. He uses a chalkboard and his handwriting is hard to read. I probably wont take his class again.

Class time isn't organized and it seems to me that he is more concerned about selling his books than teaching the class. He relies on filmsreadings to do the teaching. We are lucky if we get a lecture! no attendance, he speaks low, goes off topic, plays a lot of films and doesn't cover the power points as he said he would. waste of semester :(

Awesome Professor took him during the summer, got an A. Gives you a study guide that shows everything that's going to be on the tests. Shows he cares and is easygoing. I wish he taught 141B. Take him, you will do great.

Prof Ornelas is very helpful. I only missed one day out of the whole semester because he kept it real and interesting. I absolutely love his ways of teaching. Too bad he doesn't teach Chic 141b.

HE IS SO EASY, all you have to do is read the book and pay attention to the power points in lecture and its an easy A, know the terms and just know the general ideas of the topic. EASY A, he's super chill

Class is based on one project, the midterm and final grades . All are 100% written - half essay, half defining key terms. Pretty easy class as long as you know the material. He does not take role and shows movies for 20 points extra credit towards your test scores. He's pretty funny too.

You attend class to watch movies and although you could watch them at home, attendance counts for grade. You write 2 papers or 1 paper, 1 presentation, based on the essay questions he gives for the film. You also write a summary paper on the book he wrote. Pretty easy class, but it should be online.

he was not a very good teacher. he is very sarcastic and goes on political rants a lot. he lies alot as well so i dont know when he is telling the truth or not. he was absent before each test (which there is only two). jumps around a lot as well. no homework just one paper and two tests which are the grade in the class. would not recommend him.

Ornelas is smart, he knows what he talks about but he spent the first few days of class talking about himself and all the crap he did and blah blah blah. He speaks real low so it's hard to hear what he says too. The class is okay, he makes you read a book that he wrote and write a ridiculous paper on it. I got nothing out of it. Tests are hard.

Mr. Ornelas is a good teacher. He knows his stuff, but sometime he thinks he knows everything which can be annoying at times. The tests consist of remembering vocabulary and short essay questions. The test are not hard, as long as you read the text book.

Great professor! Tests are exactly on what is discussed in lecture. Ornelas is very passionate and enthusiastic about his class. Topics are interesting and clear. By far one of the best instructors at Mesa.
