Comment:

A very intelligent woman! I felt my English grammar getting better while studying Latin with her. Homework and preparing for reading aloud in class took forever but if you don't prepare she gives you this look of intense disappointment. You'll really want to impress her! Her tests were very fair and she offered lots of opportunities for xtra cred!

By far, the best prof I've taken at Grinnell!!! The rumors are true!! She really does care about you and has given me the best feedback a prof has ever given. She really believes in your full potential and works hard to bring that out. She herself is very hardworking and it motivates you to do so as well. Her lectures are organized and good too!

I have been away from Grinnell for two years, and she is the one professor I will always recall when I have been asked about Grinnell. Her class made me want to major in classics. The Best professor in Grinnell for me, though I do recognize there are lots of great professors. Indeed, regardless of your major, take her class and you won't regret.

Comment:

Monessa Cummins is a goddess. Her classes are really hard but it's so worth it. She's very clear about what she expects from you and what you ought to expect from her. She encouraged me and challenged me from day one of Latin. I highly recommend her classes to everyone I meet.

Monessa Cummins was the greatest experience in my entire academic life. From pre-school to graduate school, no educator has been more challenging or inspiring. I adore her as a human being. Just incredible. I've never improved more as a student under anyone as I did under Monessa Cummins. Take any of her classes. It doesn't matter which.

Not only is Prof. Cummins incredibly intelligent and articulate, she is also wholeheartedly dedicated the success of her students. She has the upmost respect for her students and is a wonderful personal and academic mentor. Literally the best professor I have ever had. She is not only excellent at teaching, she is also very passionate and excited about her work. She has a lot of energy and her classes are never boring. Hands down the best, most inspiring professor I've ever had. Students leave her classes with better analytical, public speaking and writing skills. She?s strict, but fair. She puts forth 150%, so she expects her students to give back at least 100%. Her students agree that she is simply amazing, and tend to take as many of her classes as possible.

One of the best profs I've ever had in my life. I took almost every single class she offered in humanities and classics when I was at Grinnell, although I was major in biochem. I don't know how she did it, but her seminars and class discussion were just magically engaging and inspiring.

If you come into her class thinking you are talented, she will immediately destroy. But only to build you up, re-molding you into an actually intelligent writer and thinker. She lives up to and exceeds her reputation as a "goddess." Prof. Cummings makes the material interesting and her lectures are fantastic. She's kind, but tough. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. She knows that her students take her class to learn how to write, and she goes out of her way to teach you...if you let her.
