Comment:

I never thought that I would be able to learn a foreign language, let alone Latin. She is very sweet and always in a good mood. She is also very patient and extremely helpful. She is practically blind but is still a very competent instructor. She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Latin and is obviously very passionate and enjoys her work.

Comment:

Mrs. Ruff is great! I actually took her for Greek, but that wasn't an option for review. She is a fantastic professor that really cares about her students' grades. She is accessible outside of class and by email, and she encourages questions in class. There is a LOT of homework, and you'll have to go over it in front of others, but it helps!

Stays very engaged with the topic at hand, and is ready and willing for any discussion coming from students' perspectives. A little absent-minded and a lot near-sighted, she means no harm and her class makes for interesting discussion, if nothing else.

She is very, very irresponsible and she acts like she does not care about her students. Her midterm is extremely difficult because she expects us to memorize passages for two long stories and guess who is speaking when there is over 15 characters for each. I really regret taking her class.

She cancelled class two weeks in a row. One time she cancelled class over an hour after it was supposed to begin. Many of us had been in class the entire time waiting for her. No reason given as to why the class was cancelled and did not move the midterm exam. She doubled up on the quizzes and prior to returning, had not told us what to expect.

Horrible. Very unorganized and never updated anything on blackboard (important or not). Had to go over her head for an incident because she made a mistake but was too prideful to correct.. would rate her less that poor if possible. my gpa suffered because of this

No way! 5 week summer class found us reading 9, yes I said 9 short stories and essays per week. And when she got tired of short stories we converted to looonnng plays. She made so much noise during the final, it was as though she was trying to distract us or mess with our concentration.

She graded easy on journals but extremely difficult for the essays. Don't bother e-mailing her because she won't respond. She will also put things up last minute and take forever to grade things. Honestly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. If possible take with someone else.

Wonderful teacher. She was very helpful! I simply do not understand these other ratings. She is very approachable. Of course she is rather old and has problems seeing but she is a wonderful teacher.

This was the worst class I've ever taken. It was so difficult to get a decent grade it was ridiculous. She grades too hard on the papers/the final. She's extremely unorganized and prideful. She messed up things on BB multiple times. She was always giving misleading information. The lectures were useless and boring. E-mailing her was impossible.

This class is the bane of my existence. Half the class didn't even show up today, and about five others left ten minutes in because they found out there was no quiz. Her lectures are dry and incredibly boring. I like the subject, but if you want to stay awake and feel involved, take this class with another teacher. I highly advise that you do.

This is the worst class on my schedule this year. Has us do multiple 300 word responses for every class. Deathly boring lectures. Very unorganized. Daily reading quizzes that peers grade. Doesn't answer emails. If you put up with all the crap its an easy A, but not worth it in my opinion. I'd rather take a night class.

Took her for the 5 five week summer class. Because of the accelerated time you have to put in a lot of hours, but she grades easily and fairly. She loves the material and makes it fun. She is a bit unprepared at times and allows dicussions to get off topic too much. Very nice teacher and would highly reccomend her.

She didn't have the syllabus ready on the first week of class. She is very unorganized and unprepared. Her 'quiz' questions are unclear and when you ask for clarification, she blames you for not reading the assignment. Do what you can to avoid.

Worst professor I have seen so far out of all gen eds and specialized courses. Knows enough to write books but has absolutely NO idea how to teach the information. Moves far too quickly and expects way too much. If I can keep up with every other teacher's requirements and not hers, then she probably needs to change some things. Avoid at all costs.

Took this in 1988, so my review may not be timely given current students. Showed some favoritism regarding paper topics; simply put, if you wrote about women's studies, you got better grades. I wrote on scientific/esoteric topics related to my major and was slammed. Keep an eye on how she grades vs. topics and you should be ok.

This professor was unsympathetic to her student's learning needs. She moved way too fast for an introductory ancient language class. She would yell at the class when we misunderstood her and make others feel inferior. Her cold and abrasive personality is not conducive to productive learning. One would ask if teaching is even a passion of hers.
