This professor is unique: hilarious and out of the box in her methodology. But she's brilliant and really knows her material. Her classes are paper heavy and she's a tough grader, but once you figure out how she grades you can get As and Bs easily. Beware to keep all of your papers! She'll forget to record your grades.

Dr Brown is an awesome instructor! She was informative especially in areas of history that are typically overlooked. She is very unconventional and that makes her classes fun. I did not have any trouble with her responding to my emails. Just pay attention and you will pass.

The class I took w/ Dr.Brown wasn't a conventional history class, but "American Comedy as Social Commentary," which she taught w/ Dr.Johnson. Dr.Brown is friendly, perceptive, & amusing, but is also VERY scatterbrained & forgetful, which probably would've been annoying in a different class. She's not a hard grader though & gives good feedback.

Wacky but you will love her. Easy A. Learned alot about Black History/slavery. Does not care about attendance. quizzes are super easy. Tests are more difficult but I would buy the book and read it for those. Be in class to take notes and you shall pass go!

She left the country in the middle of our semester, left the tests in her room where the sub couldnt get to them. Then, returned the tests with no markings on it, only a grade. She doesnt reply to emails. She gives you attitude if you ask questions after class. Pretty easy tests if you study the slides but she is not a polite or reliable person.

Dr. Brown is a very good teacher. Indeed, she can be silly at times but she is laid back and down to earth. This class does require attendance and you don't really need a book if you study her slides. I've taken her for 3 different classes and truly enjoyed them all. (she is also good for writing rec. letters if needed)

I really liked her. Her jokes and the vidoes she makes us watch really did help me. Only thing i can say is that she is a little off with technology sometimes for example, she put our quizzes up on moodle and had the wrong answers as right answers. But thats just tiny mistakes. I would highly recommend her!

Not helpful at all. Doesn't respond to emails. Comes to class late, and spends a good amount of time fooling with the computer before it starts working. Then opens the class with Jew jokes. Always used videos (unrelated to a history class) in her lectures, and dismisses class 15 min early every day. I learned nothing in this class.

The worst professor I've had at UNO by far..she comes in late, fumbles with the electronics for 10 minutes, shows jokes on the internet for another 10.. and then on to the wikipedia-researched lecture. She fumbles and goes on completely irrelevant tangents, repeats most words and sentences at least twice, and then lets us go 15 minutes early. Cool.

She was extremely enjoyable to listen to, as she is very passionate about the topic she's teaching. She DID go on tangents at times, but it was relevant to what was going on, or at least interesting. As far as relating topics back to black oppression, yeah it came up, but it was a history class. I'd definitely recommend her.

Doesn't follow the paper criteria she requests on her own syllabus, cannot deliver a cohesive lecture, relies completely on paper and cheat-sheets, and is utterly incapable of asking her students probing, smart questions. Sharing the course with Ed Johnson only brought a harsher light on her enormous flaws as a teacher.

Do you like white guilty? Or everything being about slavery? Then she's the teacher for you. I mean, yes, she is a nice woman, but she can barely concentrate on one cohesive topic, often going on long tangents that always lead back to how black people are repressed. It's a drag sometimes, and made people feel awkward. I can't really recommend her.

Jokes are great but they waste class time, what is a hour long class becomes a 40 minute class when she buffers her lectures with steven colbert. If you want a class to slack off its for you, but if you want to learn history find another teacher.

she is a very good teacher, very funny. she says the book is required but i got an a and never opened it, so its up to you if you think you need it. Her tests are multiple choice and if you study the notes you should get an A or a B.
