Comment:
Entirely lecture-based, except the tests include mostly non-lecture material (used the textbook and internet) and the lectures aren't even interesting. But, there are pop quizzes so you have to go to class. Grade rests entirely on the quizzes, 2 papers, and 3 extended-response-based exams. Sometimes didn't come, relied on the TA, who I didn't like.

Very lecture heavy, lectures without powerpoint from his head so pay attention, does not put notes online so going to class is mandatory to pass, about 3 100% writing exams and a few papers.

A great professor! Very funny at times. Lectures from memory, but goes way, way too fast for the most part; laptop is suggested for this course. I wish he would post PowerPoints and anything else to Blackboard.

Heavy and boring lectures, with no visual aid. Does not use blackboard at all, not even for grades. Has two assistants that does all the grading, emailing, office hours, and study guides. Does not show up for class all the time.

Dr. Hudson is a great professor, but the way the class is set up, there is only 100 points in all. The essays are only 5 points and the exams are 25 points. There is no extra credit so make sure you actually study and write a good essay. He is a very intelligent professor and his lectures can get a little boring.

I absolutely loved my Early America class with Hudson! He lectures as if he is telling a story and it is very fascinating. Only two exams plus a final, but everything is given to you. He does not take attendance every day, however, he did take surprise attendances (like 5). Easy class if you go and pay attention, lots of notes though but it helps.

He doesn't have notes or slides, just lectures. He doesn't have a clear grading system. He also doesn't believe in the +,- system. So if you have a 89%, he gives you a B rather than B+. He gives you a study guide with EXACTLY what you need for the exam. They are identical. The only things graded are three exams, 5 attendance quizzes and 2 essays.

Fun guy and knows his stuff. You'll learn a lot and enjoy the lectures. Tests are pretty tough but can get A's if you study. Books are not necessary even though they're said to be required. No homework and does not take attendance.

Leonne is an odd but effective professor. The man does not use any visuals, he lectures by memory and remembers all the names and dates somehow. Lectures long but they keep you interested with the way he conveys the story. He has different assistants grade the 3 exams which can be good or bad. Give the 5 W's on exams and you are guaranteed an A.

Class is boring but Professor Hudson made the class interesting. He is really a great guy and I would just about take any class he taught. He lectures from finish to end which can get kinda boring but he gives you every chance to succeed on the tests

i loved professor hudson with everything in me. yes all he does is lecture, but he does it in a way that makes you feel like your listening to a story. also if you're complaining about a bad grade it's basically because you didn't try. hudson gives you the entire exam (blue book style) a week before the exam so you have plenty of time to memorize the answers.

Professor Hudson is a very funny man that really knows his history. As long as you attend the study sessions before exams and study hard you should be fine. I opened the text book about 5 times during the semester. 3 tests and a final, and 2 written papers

Good professor but HORRIBLE CLASS. I had him for Early America. All he did was talk the entire hour and 15 minutes. The tests are hard and the teaching assistants grade unfairly. This class was too much work for being an elective. I do not recommend if you're looking for an easy Kent core class.

I love his class and plan to take more with him. He is one of the best Professors I have had and really knows his stuff. He teaches in lecture style. I have class from 2:15-3:30 with him and he lectures the entire time. Be prepared to take lots of notes. If your not a History major I would recommend choosing a different Professor.

Intelligent, funny, and engaging. Lectures are fascinating, but Dr. Hudson is a high context communicator. If you have trouble connecting his stories to the material, you will have trouble in his classes. Everything he says is relevant. "How long does a paper need to be?" "However long it takes." For an historian, teachers don't get any better.

Great Teacher, class is not difficult, but its a lecture and thats exactly what he does. There are no formal notes but overview study guides before WRITTEN exams. These exams are tough but not impossible if you study and pay attention. Attendance isnt required but necessary. If you cant follow a lecture and take notes rethink this one.

Took him for modern and formative. He's a great history teacher and is very knowledgeable. He lectures the whole time but he will clarify for you or repeat. He's a great teacher to have if you're a history major.. if not then you'd probably think its difficult.
