Comment:

Dr Jones was a great resource. He encouraged good study habits. He assigned a lot of reading. Reading, lectures, and projects were fairly graded. He was interesting in lectures and used anecdotes and stories to keep the lectures fresh. If you apply yourself you will do well.

I have taken several classes with him and at first I thought he was ac complete jerk, but now I have realized that he tries to be intimidating and rude because he wants students to do the best that they can. He gives lots of readings but if you read you WILL learn and he just wants students the best how him you want to learn & he will lighten up.

Dr. Jones has a completely arbitrary grading system. He provides no rubric and asks very vague questions. He takes an excessive number of points off if what YOU chose to write about is not "creative". Overall, a complete waste of tuition money his grading system will not reflect your understanding of the course material. Nice guy, poor teacher.

He is a bit unorganized and requires alot of reading.He tends to lecture off topic.I did none of the readings and still received an A on the midterm.But I DO NOT suggest skipping the readings if you are unfamilar w/the topic of the course.Hard to understand his expectations,but read,attend lectures,PARTICIPATE and you will do fine.

The worst professor I have ever had. As everyone else said, it is impossible to know what is going through his mind when he grades. His exams are essay and I am positive he does not grade equally for near exact answers after comparing my answers to others in the class. He also took a 100% paper down to a D for citation errors?

I thought he was pretty cool...he ammused me with his lectures especially the ones where he talked about his books and such. If I had studied more I would have made an easy A, however I didn't study at all and made a C...and that was with not turning in a paper...I would take him again.

DO NOT. I REPEAT. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. I have never hated a professor or a class more. He is extremely condescending and his grading makes no sense. I read the reviews prior to taking him and thought I could deal with it. It's not even worth trying. He is a straight up JERK.

This professor is only in it for the money. Don't take his class, it will only mess up yor GPA. It's impossible to know what he is looking for and his grading scale is based on nothing, just pure opinion. Save yourself the trouble if you're looking for an elective. You will not be happy with this class.

The first thing he said to us when we came in class is ignore my rate my professor rating. This guys teaching is laughable I have learned far more in 2 week online classes. If you want to waste your money, have someone be condescending to you, and learn nothing at all. Please, take this class. It's exactly what you're looking for.

if you are looking for a B or C the class is not difficult. If you are an an A student who wants to maintain that do not take a his history of African American classes. His grading of timed in class essays is absolutely non-sensible. If you're going for an "A" this class will be a stress that in the day you have no control over.

I have a 4.0 except 2 classes with Jones taken purely out of love for the subject. I think he has some race issues which impact his grading and the way he treats students. Grading is inexplicable & extremely subjective; courses disorganized; lectures straight from the book & boring; & grasp of the subject even questionable. Worst professor ever.

I loved this class it may not be the correct class number, but it was History in Film: Black Images. He was a great professor. I loved him. His work is easy if you do what you are supposed to do: READ AND COME TO CLASS. I got a B, and I would take him again in a heartbeat!!!

This professor will lose yourv paper and blame you for his problems. His grading system do not match your potentials and he's unfair to certain student's needs. Sad to say he do not care and his low esteem seems programed the way he apply work and no make up or bonus points on the exams. The lecture in class do not be on the test.

just not a good prof.vague on class guidelines and extremely subjective on papers,simply put if he doesn't like your topic(or maybe you)or doesnt understand it, youll get a low grade.Im incredibly smart, but those of average/lower intelligence in my class did much better because they appealed to his level. While he requires a lot of work (good work), he is very knowledgable. He also allows class discussions & is helpful if you go to him with a problem. If you want a class where you do nothing and get a good grade, then dont take his class. however, if you would like to learn some new info, definately take some of his classes.

Difficult. He's seemingly resentful of giving information, prefering that intro students do their own research. This is fine for a 300 level course, but it is abused here. Other posts mentioned his subjective grading process; key information was always unclear and there was possibly no correct answer to his satisfaction. Pompous hard ass.
