This man is the best thing Emory has to offer. He ACTUALLY wants students to understand what is being taught. He is kind, answers questions, and encourages active participation. I really reconsidered my opinion of the school as a whole thanks to his class. He can be somewhat of a tough grader. But as long as you go to office hours, he will help you

The class itself is interesting and he's a good lecturer, but gives an insane amount of homework that consists of a lot of reading and writing. He's also very specific about what he wants his students to get out of assignments.

Prof Allitt keeps studnets engaged. That said, this class is time consuming and it's difficult to get an A. There are two large reading assignments per week and georapghy pop quizzes. The final includes detailed questions from the very beginning of the semester, and he calls on anyone he pleases to answer in class. You'll learn, but it's tough.

Dr. Allitt is an amazing lecturer. You'll be captivated the entire time, and you'll want to show up to all of his classes. He thinks highly of himself and expects you to do all the readings and hold a conversation about the readings with him. All in all, he has your best interest in mind and is very passionate about the class.

Best professor I've taken at Emory so far - this dude exudes intelligence but also expects you to keep up with him. His course was a lot more than I bargained for, both in work and in entertainment value, but it was absolutely worth it given how much I learned. I plan on taking him again but maybe pass/fail this time around

He's wicked smart. Knows his stuff better than anyone. You'd better do the readings, participate in class, and be good on your feet. He'll grill you if you don't know what you're talking about. He's a bit arrogant and is well aware that he's smarter than you. It's a great class if you put in the work though. He appreciates students that work hard.

Really amazing in class, but in his office hours he is distracted and always has things to do. He does care for his students, but he's always so busy to really spend time with you. I guess if you just want to do well, that's okay, but if you want to get to know him a bit more, he won't be there for you.

He is a ridiculously hard grader and gives little to no feedback that is constructive. Oftentimes, his only explanation was "that's correct, it's just not what I wanted". He calls people out in class and ridicules them for no apparent reason. I would not recommend taking any of his classes, though the content of the class was interesting.

Best professor at Emory, hands down. At first I was intimidated by him, but I found him to be kind and patient. His lectures are engaging, detailed, and clear (no wordy slides or textbook regurgitation). Taking notes is very important and be prepared to work. I would take this class over and over again because of how much I learned.

Allitt is a phenomenal lecturer. I, however, found that the course material bored me to tears. I dropped the class, but if you love history he's the guy for you because he clearly loves his subject too. If history isn't your biggest thing or if you aren't too interested, don't take him. Liked him, just wish the material was more interesting.

Professor Allitt is the BEST teacher I've ever had. He's so invested in his students& is able to convey the information in a lively &fascinating way. Even if you aren't a History major you should take his class. Yes, you have to work hard, but he makes it so fun that you won't even realize you're working. You will not regret taking a class with him

The Syllabus is extremely Vague, there is no grading outline, and he does not give the percentages of our final grade of any assignment and not even the final.Overall there is a lot of reading but if you skim it you'll be fine. Just attend class and go by the outlines he gives you.

Dr. Allitt is an amazing professor, who truly allows students to think about the subject matter and analyze the historical contexts involved. His class is discussion-based, so be ready to complete the readings and participate. He is more than willing to help students during office hours, so make sure to visit him once during the semester.
