Very thorough and timely one-on-one feedback on papers, assignments, and discussion boards. Communicates regularly to students. Follows through the syllabus requirements and expectations. I felt that I truly learned and received great support from Dr. Vaz! A+++++ Professor!

Your grade is completely in your hands. You have several assigned readings for each culture studied and you MUST READ THEM! Several 1-page papers and a major term paper. A quiz after each culture and several discussion posts. She gives good feedback on your papers and I do not think she grades very hard. Overall, I really enjoyed the class!

Comment:
She is very monotonous and manages to make everything sound boring. the information on her powerpoints is disorganized and she doesn't remember what's on them, better to read the books. And even though it says participation heavy, her idea of participation is asking questions and not letting you answer or discuss. Also, beware of group projects!

This professor is very informative, although her class isn't the most entertaining, it is easy if you attend class majority of the time. The tests are open note and open book. She also sends out a study guides and gives access to the powerpoint she uses. A lot of group discussion, which makes the class more interesting. Recommend this professor!

This professor is extremely nice, but she manages to make a very interesting subject boring. She continually lectures, and I can honestly say that I have gained nothing from this class.

She knows what she's talking about. The book is needed but notes and book get to be used on the tests. Pay attention to the facts that she lectures about because most of that is on the test. She is really nice and cares about her students. Do the work and get an A

There is one big paper in the class that's due at the end of the year, but it's not bad at all. Another smaller paper due midway through the semester. The tests are either open book, open note, or sometimes both, but they are still pretty tough sometimes.

Sometimes she can be a little hard to understand, and her voice puts me to sleep, but other than that, she's really not a bad teacher. Very friendly and willing to help.

Isn't interactive in class, hard to understand and very monotone, but also very nice and personable. Not my first choice as a professor. Most of the class is getting a low grade.

I didn't have a clue what I was getting into but I loved working with this professor in my second to my last semester in graduate school. She was terrific. Clear, quick to respond, challenging and she built in me a tremendous interest in a field that represented a blind-side in my study that is now a central focus for me.

Took 2 online courses with her: Comparative Culutres and Sociology of Aging. Assignments are not too hard. She requires one big paper and only 3 other smaller written assignments. There are also about 4 discussion posts and 4 exams based on the text and PowerPoints she has made. Not hard, but is time consuming and you will learn a lot if you try!

Pelgy Vaz is the nicest prof ever, but I learned nothing in her class. My advice is if you are looking for an easy A take a course from her.
