Comment:
Avoid Dr. Torres if you can. I do believe she is a kind person and means well, but the stress she puts on students is too much, especially for an intro class. If you have her, go to office hours as much as you can. Bring your paper and she will go through the entire thing. If you follow her directions and do things her way you will do ok.

Go. To. Office. Hours. She will tell you exactly what you need to do on a paper and she will see you are dedicated. However, avoid her if you can. This is coming from a Junior with a 4.0 cumulative GPA who had a C most of the semester in a 100 level class. Prepare to put her classes above your others if you want to do well. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS.

Hardest professor I've ever had. I've spent more time studying for this class than any others, and I've had to neglect other classes to pass this one. VERY difficult. I enjoy and tackle challenges, but this class made me physically sick and stressed to the point of losing sleep. Too much information to grasp in 4 months.

Dr. Torres is the most difficult professor I've had at UAH, but she has sparked an enormous amount of inspiration in me to LEARN. I see a lot of negative reviews coming from freshman at UAH. Dr. Torries is very tough, but she isn't unreasonable. Doing well in her class takes a lot of preparation, but she's a very good lecturer and professor.

She doesnt condone questions in class, and if youre not a psych major, dont take this class. Reads off a powerpoint and explains things as if you already know what shes saying.

Read straight from slides and seems to enjoy making the course super difficult. Lots of things can result in loss of points from final. Was very rude when answering questions in class and via email and berated a girl for going to the restroom. Crazy hard for an intro course, and I'm a good student that graduated hs with state honors.

I took this class hoping to get a minor in psychology big mistake! She doesn't make this class enjoyable. If you miss 1 assignment it counts 40% of your grade, takes away any chances of correcting the assignment, and takes 10pts of an exam. If you go to the bathroom or showing up late, she will put you on blast in front of the entire class.

So unnecessarily difficult. Routinely bragged in class about how many students had withdrawn. AVOID. And god help you if you have to go to the bathroom during class.

Dr. Torres is intimidating and strict. She can be mean. I have heard of people who have decided to switch majors or go to a different school because its impossible to avoid her in the psychology department. Attendance is mandatory, missing a class "could result in a 40% loss on your course grade." Oh, and don't dare go to the bathroom in her class

Dr. Torres is a very intimidating person. Follow every instruction carefully and email her every question you have and you might make it out alive. She operates a freshman class at the graduate level. She knows her psychology and expects you know it too. The course is very rigorous and fast paced in the 5 week online summer option, so beware!

Dr. Torres is easily one of the best professors at UAH. That being said, she will come off as intimidating for the first month or so. Make multiple paper consults and record your meetings. When you stick it out you'll find that she provides great feedback and is invested in making sure you know your stuff. Don't let other people scare you away.

While I have not taken Dr. Torres for any class other than 302, this class is a culling class. She is intimidating in it and intends for any student who in unprepared for graduate level work to fail. That said, she tells you exactly what she wants and is more than willing to help you improve and grow as a student. Respectable but hard professor.

I took this class during a mini-mester as a combined grad/under grad class. It was very difficult. We covered the entire book in five weeks. She's a powerpoint reader and there was little class discussion or participation. She was very available for help with the required paper. Four very difficult online/open book exams.

Tough professor, but if you're a good student, she is more than willing to be your advocate. She does not suffer fools lightly (much appreciated!). Don't come to her class acting like a fool - but do have a sense of humor. Humor and personal accountability will get you very far in her class.

She made one of my friends cry during her office hours. Don't come late to class, look at your phone, or get up to go to the bathroom unless you mind being called out. Doctor Torres definitely knows her stuff and will sometimes give take home exams, and she will tell you what to fix on a project before turning it in. She is fair, though, but tough.

Torres is tough by all standards but understand that she takes Psychology very seriously. You have 5 paper and tests. Recommend that you meet with her about your papers so that any problems can be discussed. If your paper does not meet standards, auto-fail no revision. 302 will be tough but you can pass. Find a buddy to keep you motivated.

Dr. Torres is a very wonderful and fair professor. She lectures from her slides and provides you with the summarized notes. She tries to appear strict and detached but is really very sweet, funny, and sincere. She loves psychology and her students. Be respectful, responsible, refer to her syllabus, & review the notes & chapters to study for quizzes

This class is only for Psychology majors, which in that case you have to take it. But, if you do take it, I highly suggest you realize who Dr. Torres is. The lectures were just reading from power points, questions were not tolerated well, and papers were graded at a graduate student level. Please consult former students for this class.
