Comment:
Peter makes his lectures really engaging, and it's obvious he knows the material and wants us to as well. He actively involves students in his lectures which is hard to do in a giant 400 person lecture hall. I loved his class and I would recommend it over and over again.

Limbrick is awesome. His international cinema class is one of the best film classes I've had here and he's one of the best film professors this school has to offer. His class is definitely no joke, but I do feel like I've become a better writer thanks to him. It's a tough class and he does expect high quality work, but it's very rewarding passing.

Peter is an amazing professor- very hard but worth it for all the knowledge you'll walk away with. He is extremely intelligent, his lectures are thorough + long, incorporates cultural, political and historical aspects into film lectures. You'll learn a lot, and will need to actively participate in reading, lectures and screenings to succeed

His class was extremely interesting but also super long, breaks were too short and he usually spoke until the very last second. The screening will almost always end pass the time. Make sure to take a lot of notes because he speaks so much it is hard to keep up with the load of information. Readings for discussion section are key.

Limbrick is tough but good. He knows a lot about the course material, and in that way can sometimes be intimidating as he holds students to a high standard. But he will treat you with respect and do whatever it takes to help you understand lectures and readings. You will walk away from his class feeling smarter.

Peter Limbrick is a champion lecturer and one of the most enthusiastic and inspiring film professors here at UCSC. With high expectations, he really pushes students to produce their best work, but receiving an A won't be easy. Go to lecture, do the readings, work hard on your essays, participate and it'll be a very rewarding class!

Class is hard because it's basically the ABC's of film. If you don't already know your stuff, then you better study hard. He's very intelligent and knowledgeable about the content he is teaching. His lectures are so informative, sometimes it's hard to pick out what's going to be on the midterm and final. Attend lectures but u can skip screenings.

Peter Limbrick is fantastically knowledgeable in the field of the course. I did find that some the required reading was not super related to the class but it was overall a good experience.

He promised a take-home final all quarter, until student evaluations were due, at which point it returned to being a 3 hour test designed to take AT LEAST 3 hours. What a shiesty move, after he assigned multiple assignment with lots of criticism in all the wrong places, with VERY little feedback. I read this reviews and honestly expected better.

Top class professor. Extremely patient and polite, even when it's clear a student is pushing him to the brink. Holds students to high expectations, but his class quality is conducive to it should you be interested in expanding your knowledge of all types of film, not merely American pop. Not pretentious as previously mentioned, merely intelligent.

I took Intl. Film 1960-Present and boy was it HARD. Limbrick addressed the issue of teaching so much stuff in such a small quarter and then proceeded to do so very efficiently--meaning rapidly. He sometimes moved too fast over some subjects, but he really knows international/queer cinema theories and I learned a whole lot.

I had Elizabeth as my TA, so that was a plus since she was very prepared. Prof. Limbrick definitely knew his material, but some of the lectures were slow moving, and not all the films were for everyone. (Many were VERY long and VERY slow). However, if you are interested in foreign films, you may want to take this class.

Peter Limbrick have a great passion for film. The screenings are all interesting films although i wish there were more modern films. The workload is easy, only two 6 page essays during the quarter. The midterm and final are 20q multiple choice and short essays from clips viewed during the final. Fun if you love scene analysis and cinematography

Interesting and engaging. With weekly screenings and finals that involve lots of writing, the class isn't easy but I definitely learned a lot. If you're not interested in film, do not take the class.

Class isn't very difficult if you go to all the lectures and attend all of your discussions. However, if you have Renee as your TA drop her and find another one because she grades your papers as if you know everything about film.

as soon as the class begins, find out about your TA's reputation. this is supposed to be an introductory course but if you get Renee get ready to see your hopes of declaring the film major squashed. which if you are a transfer student like me means bye bye several thousand dollars.

Would have been an interesting class except for the fact that we did practically no visual analysis, the screenings were dull (and twice as many as they needed to be,) and tests, essays, and sections offered no opportunity for creativity, intelligent thought, or independence and were just basically going over the pointless minutia of DENSE readings

Ugg. I seriously cannot stand this man. He is arrogant, pompous, and downright unapproachable. He alternates between treating his students like idiots & then expects them to know everything the next day. He provides Power-Points, but they are basically useless. Avoid him at all costs!

Comment:
Very repetitive, he basically just teaches out of the book. The class in general was nothing I expected (I was a 1st when I took this), if you too are a hands-on production type of person there is a possibility this class will be a disappointment. If you read the book, there's no point in attending lecture.
