Comment:
Took him for PSYC317, and he is the BEST in that course. I highly recommend him for that course. Took him for PSYC358, and I regret it so deeply. His lectures are intense, and based on journal articles, nothing based on a textbook. His exams were difficult. I feel like that course did not give me the appropriate knowledge as to what is Autism.

His exams do not in any way portray what he teaches in his lectures. His powerpoints are unclear and unhelpful when it comes to studying. He mostly rambles about his experiences in the field that have nothing to do with the lecture. Take another professor he is not worth the drop in GPA

Good luck taking his class. Have fun trying to figure out what's going to be on the each exam. He lectures for the entire 3 hours and you'll sit there wondering what the heck you are even learning. Exams are 20-30 questions. There's 5 exams, drops one. Forget about the review sheet because it's gonna be useless. Just pray before you take his class.

He may know a lot but that doesn't mean he knows how to teach. His slides don't make sense, his tests are about 24-30 questions each so if you're confused on something you're failing. He is encouraging everyone NOT take the final cause it 'won't effect our grade much' also gave extra credit but was unclear with grading criteria for it. Don't take!!

He knows a lot in his field, but is horrible at teaching it. The slides don't make sense. His "review sheets" are ten bullet points of info that isn't even on the test. He will not answer your emails. I showed up to every class and studied for every test equally. I got a 90, 66, 92, and 45. His test are unpredictable, and seem strictly luck based.

Professor Sturmey is a nice guy. However, his tests make no sense. You learn something in class, and the questions are something you have never heard of before. The only reason I may do somewhat well is because I became friends with wonderful people in the class and we all helped each other out. 5 tests, lowest dropped. Gave extra credit.

Great teacher; really engaging, brings in examples from current events, and encourages participation from each student in the class. Class was long, almost 3 hours but it flew by. Lots of work, but it's a 300 level class. 4 tests, 2 presentations, and 2 papers. The Behavior Mod text by Miltenberger is really good, read it.

Professor Sturmey explained the material well, and I found his class very interesting. He has a lot of experience so he is able to teach from heart knowledge, not just textbook criteria. He also helped me a lot when I needed flexibility with the course work when I was in a bind. He cares when he knows that you care about school! I'd take him again!

Well researched and knowledgeable however is not strong at teaching. Lectures are vague & difficult to follow, & most books are difficult to understand. He uses a book he co-wrote book so if you do not understand him this book will not help. Tests seem random, and are confusing as well. Not very available outside of class.

Just a really unpleasant man. Somebody before said that he giggles if you question him -- it's true! It seems like when he doesn't have a satisfactory response to your question (which happens more than it should), instead of admitting a mistake or that he doesn't know, he just giggles like a child. Ridiculous for a man at his professional level.

His requirements of you are made very clear from day one. He is very thorough, gives clear explanations & examples, and is willing to discuss any issues you are having. I went in this class terrified b/c of what I'd heard from past students. Go to class, do the work, pass. Simple. Thanks, Sturmey.

He is by the far the best professor I had in my 4 years of college. I learned so much in such a clear and interesting way. I took a leanirng behavior class 2 semesters prior to him and I hated it and i didnt learn one thing. But prof Sturmey taught it in a different ways using examples and stories and everything was explained.

I wish to discredit the prior comments written by other students. Dr. Sturmey is one of the most brilliant professors I've encountered throughout my college career. He's written some incredible literature that intrigued me. Yes, he works hard so he expects his students to do the same. Do all your work as assigned and you'll succeed.

So you have to work hard in this class to get a good grade. Its college guys. He wasn't fair with the exam, yes. The assignments weren't that bad. It took about one hour to complete. They were pretty stright foreward. Pretty knowlegde professor with alot of experience in the field.

Smart and friendly but an incredibly lazy prof. He does not prepare for class. His "notes" are the PP slides that come with the book. He shows little interest in teaching the class. His exams are straight from the test bank (which sucks). He assigns far too much work and provides far too little feedback. One of the worst prof I have ever had.

If he grades your test wrong he will never fix it. If the question he used that came from the text bank was wrong he will admit it but not give points to those who got it right. If you try to speak to or email him outside of class he will ignore you or cut you off. If you question his syllabus he'll giggle.

Dr. Sturmey is an unprofessional, arrogant jerk who has no idea how to teach. He does not care about his students at all. He knows he's teaching people who work full time and have families, lives etc. yet he is unsupportive and an overall massive jerk. Stay away.
