Comment:

Lame. Absolutely could not answer questions if they were a tad beyond the scope of the book. Even when they were in the book, she usually needed to check her notes to answer. She does not know the material herself, yet the tests are some of the most nit-picky I have ever taken in the psych department. Awful.

I thought this class was very easy. All of the information is on the powerpoints, which are posted on bSpace. She gives you a study guide for the midterms, and as long as you answer those, you're set for an A. Shoup is a decent lecturer, she puts videos and examples in the powerpoints which are entertaining. Some lectures are worse than others

Comment:

Overall, a very clear and well-organized class. The textbook is excellent (Biological Psych by Breedlove). Because of this, there's really no need to attend lecture, but you'll still learn everything u need to by reading the book and the lecture slides. The key is to study closely off the study guide. Class is 100% exams.

Comment:

Class was pretty easy, very straightforward, easy to get an A- at least. Her study guides tell you basically what she will have on her short answer portion. The multiple choice has questions that might be confusing. If you do well on the first five exams, you don't have to take the last one! The last section on memory is the most interesting.

Comment:

It's true she can't really answer in depth questions, but the class itself is pretty easy. Lectures are to the point, though there are a lot of diagrams so attendance is condusive to getting an A. There are weekly tests instead of midterms, and you get to drop the lowest score. Tests were fairly easy if you really studied from her review sheet.

ratings here are very old, but things have not changed much. very stressful class for international & summer visiting students. You don't need to attend class/ read the book, but short answer questions are pretty demanding and GSI grades strictly. not recommended.

The single most incompetent, worst professor I've ever had at Cal! I actually wanted to petition to get my money back I wasted that semester taking a very interesting course, but with the worst teacher at Cal. Students would ask questions in class and she could not answer them, so students stopped coming to class. Never take a course from her!

I had a hard time enjoying this class because although the powerpoint lectures emphasized important concepts, she never really seemed to be able to answer even the most general questions & her lectures were very boring. I felt like I could have taken a lot more from the class if it had been more engaging, but it really wasn't, to my dismay.

Her lectures are straightforward and very clear. The tests are very fair (usually all multiple choice or w/ few short answers). I like how she's very organized. She uploads her powerpoint lectures and study guides every week. I would take another course with her if I could.

Her lectures are extreamly straight forward, she is clear and gives great examples. She presents her lectures on power point, so missing a class can be no problem. She gives multiple choice exams, and short writing assignments. Overall ok professor.

straightforward and clear lecturer. really extends herself--she is very open/flexible with office hours. always willing to talk and help you. very fair when it comes to tests. reading the material and getting her powerpoint slides will have you totally prepared. very effective professor. wants you to do well.

She lectures with powerpoint slides and makes them available online along with study guides for all the tests. I got an A by studying just the slides without reading the textbook. Tests are fair and all material is covered in lecture. Not a dynamic speaker, but a nice lady who teaches what you need to know. I learned a lot from this class.
