Professor K's class about Critical Theory and Research is a class every graduate student will have to take and it is the only required course for the MA program. It may seem hard at first, but she gives opportunities for students to revise work. Uses a clear, 1000-total-points grading criteria, gives timely feedback, and lectures eloquently.

If you genuinely want to learn (in general) she is an excelent professor. Every one of her lectures were insightful and packed with knowledge. Books were covered in detail in discussions, and she elaborated on the theory behind them. Most likely one of the best theory professors in the department. I cannot recommend her enough.

If you do the readings, the questions in the course reader, show up to class, and study, then you won't have any problems passing this class. Sit in the front and make an impression. Participate and she respects and remembers you. 1 group project creating a children's book, 3 quizzes, 1 final, 1 annotated bibliography. Read the novels!

her quizzes are hard because she wants you to give her the exact answer that she wants. her TA does all the grading. She will not reply to your emails. You can cheat and whisper during the quiz because she is not present and her TA doesn't care.

Interesting selection of children's literature that is read at home, then discussed in class. There's a course reader which gives information on some of the novels and study questions for each book. The questions in the exams are similar to the ones in the guide, a mixture of factual knowledge and short essay answers.

Don't bother emailing her. SHE DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS. Just contact the TA for all your questions. He does the gradings. Very hard grader though. she makes us read a bunch of books which are doable but so time consuming. some of the books are so boring.

Utilizes canvas and her TA extensively. Classes consist of 3 quizzes (short essay questions), 1 individual presentation, 1 group presentation, a little hw, and 1 paper. Sometimes had trouble clarifying assignment requirements at first. Mostly a very straight forward class. You will do well if you read and attend class.

If you are taking online course, Prof. Krishnaswamy is the absolute worst choice you could make. The whole class is run by TA. You don't really learn much. Plus extremely hard midterms and she does NOT curve anything even if the class average is very low. Barely replies to her email. Worst professor at SJSU. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

This class was my favorite class this semester. Dr. K would lecture for a few minutes and then the class would go into discussion. The topic was very fascinating, especially since SJSU has little to no Comparative Literature classes. The books she used were good and the workload was fair. Gave an option to do creative writing or research paper.

The class is structured with 3 quizzes, 1 take home midterm, 1 annotated bibliography, 1 group project where you and a group of 4 others write a children's book, and a final. Material was interesting and the books we read were great. Take detailed notes and listen in lecture and you should be okay on quizzes, although TA will be a harsh grader.

Professor is extremely intelligent and I enjoyed her class. Her assistant Priya is really sweet and nice, she's very helpful. I found I could talk to Priya more than the professor, she seems more open to the students. The grading is tough -thought I'd get an A, but got a B+. One major presentation & group project. I LOVED the book selection.

Not the best teacher to teach Children's Literature class, because she does not grade any assignments whatsoever. This class will be your enemy if writing is your weakest skill. The T.A. grades pretty harshly and is very close-minded writing neagtive comments. Students are unable to freely express themselves for all the writing for the class

By far the worst english to have @ SJSU considering how she doesn't grade any assignments herself. The majority of my classmates hated how everything was graded by the T.A. because, she grades way too hard on the Quizzes and other assignments. This class makes it very difficult for students to write things down from their own opinion and interpreta

She had no clue what to do with this class. She has clear favorites, and they get away with everything. And her TA grades all the work, so she's pretty much useless if you have a problem, or a question about an assignment.

First half of the semester we read short stories and discussed in class. There was also a required presentation on one of the short stories per student. And the second portion of the class was when we workshopped each other's own short stories. Very easy class. Pace of the class was good and there was definitely some creative stories and ideas.

Heres the deal: TA grades papers and is rude, insults you in comments she leaves on tests/papers. Wants flowery, analytical whiny bullcrap essays that involve reading way too much into things. Dont waste your time.... expects you to be an english major in your ability to write tests random facts in books too, out of 500 pages wants tidbit info.

She does not do any of the grading herself, it's all done by TA. Which is difficult because the teacher tells you one thing, and the TA grades on something different. Other than that, the class was pretty easy

I came into her course when it was still required for English majors...and without her, I don't think I'd still be an English major. She's just awesome and as pointed out, it's the TA that is iffy. Otherwise, you NEED to show up to class to get the concepts down...or you're going to get lost.
