Comment:

Promoted very thoughtful discussion, and incorporated a lot of good life lessons, such as trying to be a well-rounded/cultured individual and working on things like critical thinking and oral presentations. Was effective at teaching the material, with reviewing to make sure people got it before moving on. Was the best professor I had that semester.

Comment:

The course consists of a midterm a final, presentations, group work and homework. Prof. Martinez is interesting, funny and cares about his students. The course gives the impression of being easy because of Martinez’s cool demeanor. I know of a couple of students (friends) who failed the course. Take the tests and reading seriously. Great class!

Diverse course material, interesting and dynamic lectures and interactive exercises applicable to real life experience, not just textbook knowledge. Easy class. Show up to class and you will do fine -he cares a lot about attendance. 2 group projects and 1 individual presentation. Midterm & final are based on vocab from the book. Really nice guy and very understanding and helpful -I would take him again.

If you're looking for an easy A, this is your class. Hardly any work, but class was a waste of time. Talked about the most random things. If you like class discussions, take him. 2 group presentations and 1 individual presentation. You will do skits. Midterm and final based on vocab from the book. Class was easy, but overall, I did not enjoy it.

easiest professor EVER. barely any work in this class. I didn't even buy the textbook and still got an A. Take the midterm and final in pencil WITH an eraser on hand. (you grade it yourself). yet, i still learned so much.

Knows his stuff!! 2 quizzes, a presentation, 2 papers (fairly easy), midtterm and final. He makes the class extremely interesting. Take this from someone who hates english! Class consists of reading, participation and movies. Cool teacher, very helpful!!

Prof Martinez really seems to care about the class.. I dont know what my grade is yet but he has been so helpful with his comments and you are able to revise your paper if its not a grade you are happy with 4 papers-gave one quiz-midterm was a little diff - but i have not received my grade yet. He has been so positive influence HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Professor Martinez is awesome! One of the very few professors who has interest in building relationships with his students. Your work reflects your grade in his class so do it! He is a very close mentor of mine and also has become a good friend, you won't regret taking his courses. :)

Comment:

Tests reflect text material and class notes/discussion. Provides a fair review for both tests. Attendance, and participation a must! Interesting class discussions/interactive. Nice guy, humble and down to earth. Take the homework seriously, and do not underestimate the tests. Really good course if you are prepared to be challenged.

Honestly, i took this class with Rey because he was my adviser and he seemed okay. My experience in this class has been terrible. Nothing we talk about in class translates to the test. My class basically bombed the midterm which is %35 of your grade. His pretentiously polished character becomes annoying at one point and the class sucks overall.

Objectivity is important. It is true that we remained in class an extra 20 min. BUT we agreed as a class to do so in exchange for taking off the session before to study for the final, and prep for a final group project. Prof. Martinez is fair, interesting, and a great teacher! While the HW is easy, take the tests etc. seriously, or you may fail.

He LOVES to hear himself talk..NOT about the class subject though. On the last day he kept up 20 MINUTES after class...till 10pm! However, the homework was extremely easy, he gives u questions from the text, and u copy exactly wut the text said and u get full credit. Easy A.

Professor Martinez is knowledgeable, witty, and personable. Connected the curriculum lessons well with tangible life examples. Made the boring text interesting. Definitely a curriculum based course, well organized, and had excellent command of students and material. Very helpful. Take tests seriously, attend classes, and participate. Great class!

Very nice, witty, fun guy. Class a little sluggish, barely learned anything. Disscussion based classes kept it interesting. Participation is key. He was always late to class and the tests where tough. Fun class but lacked curriculum based lessons. He always motivated the class but i felt there was something missing from the course...

Personable, witty, and knowledgeable. Can be quite funny, and down to earth. Connects very well with students. Because he is so personable appears to be easy, BUT take the tests and assignments seriously, or you may do poorly. Highly recommended!
