Gerberding is awesome. He's very encouraging and very playful with his students. He expects everyone who is in Latin to want to be there, so he expects a lot. Its a hard class, but then again, I know more Latin after one semester than I ever did in my two years prior. He knows his stuff and he loves to pass on the knowledge. Take him while you can.

He is an excellent professor. His initial education that he reeived is well-used. He made Rome come to life, showed us the back roads and deeper issues that most types of history classes and books barely touched. Though his assignments could kick your butt, it's soooooo worth it in the end. I loved having Dr. Gerberding as a teacher. Amazing guy.

Took Gerberding for Western Civ. His class will KICK YOUR BUTT! However, he is very interesting as far as lecturing goes, and he will teach you the material, whether or not you pass/make a good grade. I would recommend him, only if you have lots of time to study, and are in need of History courses.

I'm an A student, and I struggled in this class. It is ridiculously difficult. He is a really good lecturer and knows his stuff, but his test are almost impossible. The only thing that saves me was the research paper, which took like a month to write, and that fact that final was optional due to the tornadoes (I didn't take it to save my grade).

Amazing instructor, truly cares about his students and their well-being and education, not only in class but out of class. In my mind the best professor at any college I've attended.(He Teaches old school, you better be passionate about the class and learning or you will fail. I took it for fun, and crashed and burned. I can't recommend him enough)

I attribute the very reason I enjoy history to this day to this man. It is extremely hard to find a teacher who will not only change the way you think, but inspire you to continue in the discipline. Professor Gerberding is one of these teachers.

Unless you are a history major, DO NOT TAKE! arrogant, rude, and tests are filled with random history. The only way to get a good grade in this class is if you already have a bunch of useless information in your head.

I never liked HY lectures until this class, he is a great lecturer and teacher, but the difficulty of his tests just makes it irrelevant. Unless you like memorizing hundreds of pages of history books (seriously), do not take this class.

A prof. that makes one think? Isn't that rare! Very knowledgable in his field and uses the right mix of sarcasm and praise to let you know he cares about you *and* your performance...don't be intimidated or you will miss out on one of UAH's best profs.

One of those rare instructors that teaches his students to think, not simply memorize facts and dates. Places great emphasis on the causality of history, and spends the majority of the time asking and answering questions. Extremely insightful, and kind of a fascinating guy in general. Lives in a castle, got his Ph.D from Oxford. Not easy. Take him.

VERY knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. Made lectures very informative and interesting. This isn't your usual boring history class. Exams are not easy. Study for the essay questions and many of the random-fact questions will fall into place. You'll definitely need to do a lot of reading though to do well. Overall excellent prof.

Absolutley ridiculous! at the amount of knowledge you have to know just to pass this FRESHMAN class. If you are not a history major then DO NOT take this class. He will hand out review sheets for his midterm and final, but they are useless. I studied it for hours and failed the exam! He is old school and RIDICULOUSLY HARD for this lower level class

Dr. G is definitely one of the hardest profs you'll have. Yet he will also be the most thought-provoking, dynamic lecturers you'll ever see. He is a TRUE professor, teaching students what they need to know in life, not just what they need to pass a test. He treats all his students (Freshman-Senior) like adults and expect they act like adults.

Lots of interaction, ensuring understanding of events and reasons that led to it. Good humor, too. Only three assignments throughout the semester, tho: midterm, final, and research paper. Be sure to do the reading, as he talks directly from it.

Holy Cow. He does nothing but lecture. So you feel like you have to write down everything he says. He overwhelms you with information. He DOES NOT give study guides, so you have no clue what information to learn for the exams. He only does a midterm and a final. You have to go to class every day in order to even pass. HARDDDD!!! do not take.
