to get an A you only need a 82% and all tests are online, but dont let that trick you its only because his class is nearly inpossible. he is a horrible professor whos notes are not even helpful, and his tests are so detailed and you cannot find any of the answers online. only way to survive is theres lots of easy points through homework & dicussion

Comment:

Osuna's genuinely a nice guy who wants you to succeed. Only an 82% to get an A, but not necessarily easy. You'll need to work for it. Go to class- you can get to 10 points extra credit just by going. Discussion's designed to improve your grade- go. Tests are online, but you need to study and read the book to do well. Glad I took genetics with him.

Comment:

Professor Osuna is VERY lenient with his grading scale. All exams and quizzes are conducted online during the scheduled class time. Online homework is weekly and a bit lengthy, annoying, and harder than actual tests. Has iClicker questions, but they are just extra credit. Overall the class felt like a waste of time, but still an easy A.

This guy is kinda all over the place, but I highly recommend him over the other genetics prof. His grading scale is VERY lenient and his exams are straight-forward, but go to his review sessions bc he hints what you should know well and what doesn't matter as much. Also go to his office hours, he is very sweet and cares about you and your grade!

Great Prof. Very generous grading scale 82%+ A. Clicker questions are extra credit. His tests are difficult, but if you read the textbook at least a week in advance you will be okay. Discussion is once a week with a weekly quiz and 1 presentation. Drops 4 lowest HW for lecture and 2 lowest of discussion. I was expecting a B+ , but got an A.

I love Osuna! He is a great professor with a great passion for genetics! You need 160 points out of 200 to get an A which is 82%. If you come to class every day its 16 points of extra credit. It's not an easy class and you would have to work for it but he is very lenient and wants you to pass. His exams are hard but if you study you should be fine.

One of the best professors i have had in entire biology career. U can have lots of extra credit just by doing clicker questions in class very nice guy. His exams are very hard so u have to really put in the work and most importantly u have to read the book in order to answer his questions

Love Dr. Osuna! He really is a good professor but you're not going to do well if you don't put an effort in. He will guide you and is very approachable but if you don't want to put the work in yourself then he isn't going to be able to help you.

Dr. Osuna is a good guy. Genetics is a tough class and he gives a lenient grading scale. The class requires quite a bit of reading/studying in order to succeed. There are complex concepts and terms that need to be known exactly. He does offer extra credit and tries to help you out as much as possible.

The material isn't hard but you do have to put in 1 week studying to retain the sheer amount of information. A bit of a boring lecturer but you can teach yourself. Gives small extra credit here and there. An 82 is an A so you can't go wrong. 4 tests. Final is not cumulative.

Didn't find him interesting to listen to. Challenging class but doable if you study. For exams, study lecture slides (which are fill in the blank), practice quizzes, and HW questions. Lots of HW questions can be found online. The discussion part consisted of a quiz every week and you present one HW question for 5 points. Lectures were dry/boring

I'll tell u wht u gotta do to get an A. Listen and do as I say, bc I'm not a smart student, & got it w/o going to class. All u do is read the chapter, & the slides. Then, just find the ans to the HW's online. Before the exam, memorize the HW ans/Study area answers (look at syllabus to c where u can find that). Most of these questions r on the exam.

Comment:

He's a great teacher. Very approachable and gives fair exams. I struggled with the first two exams that focused on genetics word problems but the last two were better. Do good on the mastering assignments, attend discussion, make sure you understand all his lecture slides and you're good.

His first semester teaching Intro to Genetics wasn't bad. Study from his slides, study guide for exams and supplement the info from his slides with the text and you WILL be able to get a good grade. This course requires studying there's no way around it. His final is not cumulative so don't complain.

I had him for his first semester teaching Introductory Genetics. He started off fairly well. And then (about after Mendelian Genetics), everything literally went to hell. He ended up putting pictures on slides with no words and leaves out a lot of info the textbook has. He basically points his laser all around the screen and is talking to himself.

Just memorize everything on his online powerpoints and you'll be fine. Tests are a little bit detailed but not as detailed as Travis's. He is a very nice person and is very accessible outside of class.
