Comment:

Very nit-picking on grading homework and tests. There are no quizzes, and the only homework that is taken for a grade is on mylab- which the homeworks aren't like the exams at all and turn in assignments. He assigns book problems for you to do everyday. Very tough class and he is very fast on writing on the board. He does not make calc fun or easy

He was the absolute worse, I would not recommend for anyone to take his class. Whenever you needed help all he did was suggestion went to the math mall. His grading made no sense and he moved WAY too fast. He made math class the worst thing ever. Horrible professor

This man made Calculus 1 pretty hard. He taught as if we were supposed to know what was going on. Then he says to throw away what we learned in high school. If he doesnt convey info well, why would we throw away what we spent an entire two semesters on?

Hard grader, If its not his way your wrong. Only professor to ever give a 34 percent for 1 wrong answer. His monotone voice makes for a snooze fest in lectures. Wouldnt recommend him at all.

This is my second time taking Calculus and he was way better than my first professor. He actually wants you to pass! His homeworks are his tests. (But the last page is where people mostly struggle) Hes a little picky though and sometimes he struggles lecturing. He uses different colors on the board and I love that so much.

His lectures are very hilarious he makes math pretty fun at times, however, you would often see him waste lots of time trying to get the class to participate. the way he grades tests assignments is extremely nitpicky often times I would go to his office and discuss what I did wrong and it would be due to me simply placing a different variable. Dumb

I was anxious about passing this class throughout the whole semester. After getting an A+ on the 2nd test, I was able to relax a bit more, but I know a majority of the class felt the same way I did. RC is very smart and lectures are easy to follow. Class is very hard, but if you take good notes, study and do the take-home assignments you will pass.

Vandell is a good professor! His teaching technique is very effective and he tries to make sure you know what he is explaining. If you ask questions in class he doesn't hesitate to clarify. One thing that most students have trouble with in MA175 is that they don't understand the content. He can teach it to you, but you have to understand it.9/10

While he is pretty funny and friendly, he is very unorganized and at times he goes off on a detailed tangent that makes no sense. His grading is very strict. I like him, but he really needs to work on delivering material in a way that makes it easier to understand. Also he says "okay" a lot. I counted one day and he said it 284 times.

It seemed like he never really knew what he was talking about and presented the materials in a confusing manner, often needing to be corrected by students. He won't give points back on grading mistakes for tests and homework.

Vandell's great. He uses multi-colored markers when lecturing so it's easy to keep track of how everything relates and uses proofs, which I found extremely helpful. Grade is based on turn-ins, Web-Assign hw (make sure to check Web-Assign regularly), 3 tests, and the final. Tests were very reasonable in my opinion.

Dr. Vandell was a really good instructor. He treats his students the way college students are supposed to be treated, like adults. If you do the work and ask questions when problems arise, you will do well. He gives the info that is needed to succeed.

Great teacher! He keeps lectures entertaining with his sense of humor. He grades hard, but you learn the material well. He color codes the examples on the board which helps a lot. I definitely recommend him!

It was my 2nd time taking MA165. I understood his examples way better than my previous prof. There were 3 types of HW, WEbassign (graded) ,bookwork (not graded or turned in), and "weekly" Turn-in assignments. He graded on a slight curve, and drops a couple Turn-in Assignment scores. Tests are versions of Turn-in Assignments.

If you are taking his Math for Liberal Arts… make sure you study the online lectures… When he presents in class he mixes information up and delivers it in a confusing way… do extra math so you can be practiced… and triple check your homework answers (he's strict)…
