Rod Martinez killed my passion for design almost immediately. The design is subjective, however, he did not grade or teach in this manner. Make something he doesn't like? Be prepared to have him humiliate you in front of your peers. Some weeks I got little to no feedback. He is smug, condescending and unwilling to help.

Rod is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is clear in what he expects and will tell you when your work is not up to par. You will develop a thick skin but eventually realize he was right all along. Overall, I learned a lot in his class.

He should not be teaching. He is rude, snide and inconsiderate, and completely unhelpful. He forgets he is still dealing with kids who are enthusiastic and want to learn. He really can kill their mojo with the way he acts and treats his students.

Design is a subjective field and he really makes you feel like only his way is the right way. But furthermore, he won't give you any direction. You're stuck beating a dead horse with a stick in his classes if you don't get it right on the first try. It's hard to improve because he doesn't give you any clear cut direction.

I used to love design until I had him as a professor. He made me feel useless and like I could never do anything worthwhile. That's an awful thing for a teacher to make a kid feel like. Ruined my passion for design.
