Calinger is a nice enough man but is very out of touch and difficult to get in contact with. He lost one of my tests and did not address why I had a 0 for a grade until the end of semester. Gave me an I and said he couldn't prove I was there.

He may stray slightly from the material, but adds interest by giving random facts. To say that students don't learn anything is wrong. He is extremely helpful during review, and the tests make sense if you come to class.

By far one of the best professors I've ever had. His stories add a colour to the class that other classes lack and if you pay attention in class, you can pass his classes with hardly any trouble at all.

Calinger knows pretty much everything about every person in history, which made him run off on tangents the entire class (which is difficult during note-taking). Lectures are very important, as he looked for specific answers on his short-answer and essay tests. If you study A LOT, you'll do well. You never need the books

Comment:
Dr Calinger has so many glowing reviews because he is a nice old man who grades pretty easy. However, what is the point in taking a class that is so unenjoyable that it sucks the life out of you? I really had a hard time sitting through his incomprehensible lectures and felt as though I was wasting my time and my parents' money in that class.

Comment:
Dr. Calinger tends to go off on random tangents and show's his liberal bias at least twice a class. Spends most of the class either a)Figuring how to use the computer or b) Sharing his stories about his travels and friends in Europe, especially Russia. That said, Dr. Calinger is really a nice man and he grades fairly.

Excellent Professor, very interested in students. Loved his classes and a CUA experience would have been incomplete. I describe myself as Conservatice and see Dr. Calinger as a reasonable man.

Not a bad teacher, but is ardently left wing and lets everyone know it. If you take his class do not have him as your group lector. He taks a long time to return papers and can not keep things straight.
