Comment:

Generally super nice, but is a pretty hard marker. Managed to get A+ on both lab exams by going to class for 20 mins and taking pictures of all the models and microscope slides then dipping. Spelling really matters. Listen to her explanations at beginning of labs because she often tells key things that will be on lab exams. Just know lab manual!

Comment:

One of the best lab instructors at Langara. She cares about her students success and if you don't understand the labs she will have no problem clarifying the material until it's understood. She teaches with experience and really knows her stuff.

Comment:

Sandy is a really chill teacher and very funny. Found the labs useless because she didn't really teach, it was up to you to ask her questions to learn. Midterms were pretty easy and she would sometimes hint at you if your answer is wrong. Still need to study lots and make sure to have correct spelling and no abbreviations!

Sandy is nice, funny and approachable. Her midterms are usually out of 40 (short answers). She will give a pop quiz during the first lab, which you can use as a bonus mark for the first midterm :) BUT, she is very picky with wording and one word answers.

Comment:

I am taking her lab class and she is one of the best teachers who is always willing to help you out. She gives many examples to get us to understand hard 1191 better. I do not understand why some students left harsh comments on her. In my 1191 lab class, the majority of my classmates seem to like her a lot.

Comment:

By far the worst lab instructor I've ever had. She ruined an otherwise great class. She marks very tough. No amount of work can prepare you because she is incredibly unclear about her expectations and very fussy about what constitutes correctness. She marks arbitrarily without any guidance or explanation.

Comment:

Sandy is a approachable, helpful and knowledgeable. I recommend asking her for tips to study for lab and she will tell you what she expects. There are no surprises. Yes, there are alot of info! And be specific and clear with your answers and an A is pretty reasonable to get in her exams.

Comment:

Fast turn around time for exams. Sandy had our first exam marked in a week & our second within a few days. Her lab exams are really difficult, but theres a lot to know for this course in general. Any kind of spelling mistakes count and if you use words that are too vague you are docked marks. Overall good teacher. Always answered questions I had.

Terrible marker, NOT clear on how she wants you to answer in exams. Had the exact word-for-word answer on her answer key and she said it wasn't concise enough and that she "already knows the answer to everything" and that we have to explain it to her further. Oh and if you were to be too specific in your answers, prepare to have them marked wrong

Certainly the worst the biology department has to offer. An overall miserable person, if she's not criticizing other students, you, it's the college itself. All these people saying she's lazy, that's simply not that case. Sandy cleared that up by saying that she takes weeks to mark exams because she "doesn't get paid enough to work weekends."

She seems pretty chill, but her marking is unreasonably hard. Incredibly picky, down to the verb. Even if it's obvious that you understand the concept from your answers, she doesn't care and marks it entirely wrong.

Sandy is an awesome teacher. Everyone complaining about her being too hard either isnt trying hard enough or is expecting biology to be a walk in the park - which it wont be.. with any teacher. She has an interesting sense of humour but is SO helpful if you just go up to her and ask and TAKE BIOLOGY SERIOIUSLY. I hope I get her again for 1191 !

Completely teaches you nothing. Come to class with your printed lab manuals and do whatever you please. Don't even come, she won't know or care. Lab exams are very specific and hard. Seemed so laid back and chill at first, but that is exactly what makes her useless. Self-study course and you really have to know everything if you want a good mark
