Digital History has truly been a ride. Through all the random, unexpected errors but we almost always fix them. Professor Purcell's readings can be disproportionately heavy at times compared to the time spent talking about them, but we did launch into data after a period of readings and lectures and had alot of fun. Would take again.

Professor Purcell is extremely helpful in improving my writing skills. Her lecture is very interesting and covers a lot of materials. She responds to email very quickly and is always willing to help you in person during office hours. She grades rigorously and it is difficult to get an A, but you can learn many things from her class.

Professor Purcell is an absolutely fantastic discussion leader. Her class feels like you work together to learn with her helping to guide the learning process. She is incredibly kind and goes out of her way for any of her students. I would absolutely love to take another class from her. One of the best professors/teachers I've ever had.

One of the best professors at Grinnell. Purcell will teach you how to write and how to think about history. Insanely smart and committed to students. She will read drafts of your papers; if you want to do well you should take advantage of this.

Comment:
Easily the most influential professor I've had at Grinnell. Gets student life a little better than most professsors, and will cut you some slack when you really need it. Super helpful in one-on-ones and also just a great person to get to know.

Sarah Purcell was an excellent professor, and I feel lucky that I ended up -- largely by accident -- taking her class during her first semester teaching, before everyone found out about her and her classes got more popular. She's an excellent discussion leader, especially in smaller classes, with a keen sense for keeping things flopwing well.

Purcell is nice, sure, but don't expect to learn a whole lot in her class. She only gives Bs and above, so if you don't want to work to much, she's the Prof for you. But be warned, if you aren't "buddy buddy" with her then there's no way you'll get an A. Wasn't a particularly great class but didn't cause me a lot of stress which is good

she is a fun prof to have a class with, even if she expects a lot from papers and discussions. she is terrific at leading discussions and is very willing to help with drafts- use that opportunity! there was a lot of reading, but it was very interesting so that was fine. she knows so much about history and has fascinating ideas!!

HOORAY PURCELL!! She is great! Energy abounds, take her class! The seminars are better, and not too much reading. Purcell is FRIENDLY in the extreme, loves history, is great working on projects, very approachable...the word is FUN, here, people. Purcell = fun. !
