Goes out of his way to answer questions. Incredibly good at writing notes on the board and giving lectures. A real human being. Slow at grading exams/ homework.

He is extremely smart and really clear when he gives lectures. The textbook is EXTREMELY useful and definitely helps understand the material. Must go to class to keep up with the fast pace teaching.

Definitely in the top 3 list of professors at the civil engineering department at Umass Amherst. I learned a lot about concrete reinforcement, beams, columns, length development, and design. My final grade might not reflect how much I learned, but that was just me. Sleep the night before the exam and you will be fine. Don't do my mistake.

He's a good professor, explains materials quite well but often rushes through important stuff. Grades difficultly and tries to bring your grade down as much as possible. But a nice guy, you really have to read the text.

Came to class with nothing but the textbook and basically read from it. Rushes important material and spends way to much time drawing pictures and making observations about them instead of actually working problems. Constantly did not follow through on promises made in class (e.g. posting homework & grades, office hours, etc)

His reinforced concrete design class is very difficult, even for upper level engineering courses. The homeworks are lengthy and the tests are damn near impossible, but Dr. Brena is an incredible teacher and is very clear in his lectures.
