I learned more about her current husband (her cowboy) than i did about the state of Virginia history. She doesn't care about her students and her lecture is very dry. I'm an A student and I even got a C in her class. Some of the material she also taught was incorrect. Avoid if you can.

Hard class to sit through. Lectures were really boring. Your grade is based on 3 tests, quizzes, and an essay. Essay isn't that bad, test weren't too bad if you study, quizzes could be annoying. Not a bad person, but I wasn't a fan of her teaching style. I wouldn't take her again or recommend her, but it's not the end of the world if you have to.

Nice lady. Not so great class. Outlines weren't as detailed as she made them out to be. Tests could be hard and required lots of a reading if you wanted to do well. While she is nice, she wasn't too much help outside of class. Much harder than I expected for a Gen Ed History class.

Didn't like her at first, but she got better as the semester went on. She's nice, but her lectures were tough to sit through and not well organized. Lots of reading. Tells you most of what will be on tests. Occasional pop-quizzes that get annoying. 1 essay on a book you have to read. Not a hard class, but I wouldn't say it's easy. It's average.

Not an easy class, but doable. Just take notes on her outlines and lectures and you'll be alright. Reading is assigned but it's pointless. Occasional pop-quizzes. Tests can get kind of hard (essay question accounts for too much of the points). You can't slack at all in this class or you will fail.

Terrible. Her quizzes and tests aren't on what she says they will be and there are no study guides. Not very helpful in office hours. Don't take her.

She's a very nice lady, but the class is hard. Lot's of reading and pop-quizzes every other class on maps. I had her in the morning and this class was very difficult to stay awake through. There's no study guide for tests and they are hard so LOTS of studying is required. It's certainly do-able though.

Very frustrating class. Reading and lectures don't match up and she isn't specific about what's going to be on tests and doesn't give a study guide or anything. Some stuff covered in lectures and on tests isn't even in the book. Goes off topic a lot as well. Not very helpful. Overall a very frustrating and difficult class.

I guess class was alright when she actually stayed on-topic. Goes off topic a lot about her personal life which got really annoying. Doesn't always act professional either. Lots of reading and her test and quizzes can be pretty tough. I struggled to get through it and had to spend like 15 hours a week studying. Be prepared if you take her.

Dr. Shepard is a southern belle in love with America, and her passion translates into elder-like wisdom in lecture.

Test are pretty tough, lectures are long. She is a nice lady, but do not talk in class, and DO NOT use or let your phone go off. She is willing to help you but you have to want it. Read the chapters because there are quizzes every week.

I had to take this class for credit, and if I could pick another teacher, I would. She doesn't lecture very well, and what she does lecture on, isn't really on the test. She would much rather tell you how her weekend went with her friends, and all about her personal life. You must read the textbook, otherwise you will not do well.

Such a wonderful lady. However, she won't give any pity or take excuses. I usually suck at history but she made it fun. She tells her lectures like a story and makes them interesting. Her quizzes are usually pretty easy and straight from the book. Her tests are pretty challenging though, requires lots of late night cramming. But as long as you take very detailed notes, all will be fine.

I go back and forth with Dr. Shepard everyday. Her class is very easy. Uses several questions from the book as her quizzes, uses some for tests. Not very helpful. One time she marked an answer wrong on a test and refused to fix her mistake.

I had this class first thing in the morning and it was a struggle to get myself out of bed for it. Honestly though, she is a GREAT professor. She can get hard to follow at times and I always got people's names confused when she lectured. Make sure you do all the readings and study the maps and even read the picture captions, it's all on the tests.

I'm a history major and have taken 3 separate classes with Dr Shepard. She can be a bit dull at times, but for the most part she is extremely accommodating if you need help. Being successful in any of her classes comes down to doing the work and taking notes. Her tests/quizzes are based off of the lectures for the most part, but don't neglect reading

Dr. Shepard is so sweet and amazing. She loves us students and she loves teaching. She wants to see you try your best. She loves her students, but especially her bad boy back row, she loves the bad ones the most. One of the best professors I have ever had!!! Absolutely love her!!
