Comment:
Dr. Kroen has high expectations for her students, which inspires them to perform to the best of their abilities. I learned more about history from Dr. Kroen's Modern Europe class than I did in any other history class at U.F. She was instrumental in helping me understand women's and gender history and encouraged me to pursue a career as a historian.

Don't take this class if you're not prepared to read, or expect a participation trophy for solely coming to class. I've take two classes with Professor Kroen and she is a brilliant and caring professor. She is extremely accommodating and considerate with her students, specially when you put in the work.

I wouldn't listen to the person below me, their review got posted right after our midterm and I am assuming they just didn't do well. The truth is, Professor Kroen knows her stuff. She has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of both the texts we cover and any possible related text you could think of. Very accommodating prof, you will learn a ton.

Professor Kroen is an awful professor and I don't say that lightly. Lectures don't help and you need to buy multiple books. She does not use notes, slides, or any form of organization. Printer required and she refuses to use tech (no canvas). She assigns 500 pgs reading per week on avg. She doesn't believe in giving A's. I would drop if I could.

Dr. Kroen's courses are transformative. She heavily emphasizes political theory and literature, and reading is a must if you want to participate in class discussions. Also, while her grading criteria is tough, working with her during office hours will dramatically improve your analytical and writing skills. She is one of the best at UF.

Dr. Kroen is AMAZING. If you're passionate about writing and you want to improve, she will help you. She's read basically everything so she gives good advice for sources and gives you room to be creative. If you're lazy and are taking her class as an elective, my advice is don't.

It is impossible to comprehend what she is saying, because I feel like she doesn't know what she is saying. She jumps from point to point and every class I end up more confused than when class started. It's a shame, the class (Enlightenment and Revolution) could have been more interesting. There 3 grades and you have to be an amazing writer to pass

I honestly don't understand why this lady's score isn't lower. So many people on here have legitimate complaints with her grading criteria. Which is why she was the worse history professor I had at UF, you couldn't pay me enough to take another one of her classes. Her grading was extremely bias and she never made it clear what she deemed an A paper

We only met once a week for this class. Dr. Kroen was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. Expectations for this course were not clear, which made the course more stressful than fun.

She was a good professor in the sense that she REALLY cares about the course material. She also wants to talk with students to help them get sources for their papers. However, she is a TOUGH grader, and she also reads papers in depth and has issues when you wish to use sources she has not read or does not know. She can be frustrating.

lectures are about her favorite historians and her personal views, extremely tough grader. Can't miss class she keeps attendance every day. must write the way she wants, if not you will be upset with your grades. 2 page papers due every week, then a 7 page paper at the end of semester. Doesn't really stick to the Syllabus so being in class helps.

I LOVE Kroen. Tough grader but I personally have grown SO much as a writer. Cares a lot, about students & the subject matter, I really appreciate the amount of time it seems like she puts into the class. Lectures can be a bit confusing sometimes, but if I'm really tuned in and getting it I learn A LOT and really enjoy the lecture. Highly recommend!

Sheryl Kroen is the worst professor I have ever had. She spends the majority of the class time talking about her own book than about the actual topic being studied. She lets out class 5-10 minutes late every day. She teaches incredibly poor writing methods and if you don't write the way she wants then you have no hope for passing. She is too biased

Professor Kroen is one of the worst professor I have ever had at UF. She is a very hard grader and makes you long books for only 1-2pg response paper. She wants you to write a certain way & if not then you are screwed. She is big time feminist and she holds it against those who are not, which tends to make your grades suffer because of this.

Dr. Kroen is a tough grader for sure, but she will give you the grade you probably deserve. But if you put in the work, it will show, and she will definitely respect you for it. Pro tip: go to office hours and work with her one-on-one before you turn in your essays. Your grade will thank you.

She grades the papers very thoroughly and there is plenty of reading (7+ books). Class attendance is mandatory, though you can get by without saying much. One of the most challenging history professors I've had, but a very good teacher.
