Only 2 tests, 1 research paper, and 1 presentation for the entire semester but it's also easy to mess up your grade if you screw up either one of those. She's super chill and most of the classes later on is just presentations from people about films. Attendance is to sign on a piece of paper. Not really required to read the textbook either

The class is easy if you try. Presentations take up more than half of class time, but it's better than her lectures. Just pay attention and interact in class and there is no reason you won't get an A.

Be prepared to regurgitate EVERY obscure "insight" Kratzer divulges. This is required in your papers. Assume that narrative preoccupations are directly attributable to directors.

I like how she teaches History of Film because it's less history and more film analysis. Half the classes are students giving presentations, I feel partly because she gets lazy. But she has good knowledge to impart (through her thick accent). Pretty easy grader and you don't have to show up most of the time, all the notes are online.

Very structured lectures. Easy midterm & final (given topic ahead of time & get to bring outline). Paper is very easy as well. She grades more lenient than other film hist. teachers. She will help you if you need it. Offers extra credit- take advantage just in case! Great class, great professor!

Kratzer is pretty easy. The feature films can be boring, but take notes in class (this is easy, they're all up on the board when you get there) and regurgitate that in relation to your topic on papers/midterms and you'll be fine. I recommend it!

If you are a film buff you should really enjoy this class. she is a good prof. for this course because she shares a lot of enthusiasim for the subject and she knows her film. Loves it if you participate but its not neccessary. you only have to pay attention to two of the classes to get material for the final and midterm which are ez. ez A

Prof. Kratzer is great. Her lectures, film clips, and discussions were very interesting. Offered substantial critiques of term papers before their due dates. ADVICE: For midterms and finals, she basically wants everything she talked about in class written on the exam, so just use your corresponding notes when writing - she allows them too!

Kratzer is the best teacher you can take for History of Film. The classwork involves a midterm, final and one paper, meaning you can get by easily with paying minimal attention to 2 or 3 classes. Plus she wares very revealing attire. But seriously, she is extremely knowledgeable on almost everything in film history. Excellent teacher, very nice!

Comment:
History of Film through 1945 is one of the more boring classes you can take at Chapman, no matter the teacher. With Kratzer you get to pick your mid-term and final essays, so you only have to stay awake for two classes all year. If you do, have an interest in film history though, she really knows her stuff. Definately Recommend.

She knows what she's talking about. She loves class interaction. Easy. Only a midterm, final, and one paper. Looooonnnnng class. And her accent is a little touch to understand, but not too bad.

Couldn't stand watching her. She'd constantly flaunt herself for the guys in the class, and it was disgusting to watch. She refused to get new markers for the white board and as a result it was impossible to read anything she wrote up there.

I hated her class! She is a very biased teacher and if you get on her bad side, you are screwed! She grades quite hard and picks apart your papers. If you don't kiss her butt, then say goodbye to your grade!

extremely easy class. only problem i encountered: she changed the final time to a day earlier without telling all of her students... so me being one of the ones uninformed, went to the university's final time, but ended up missing her final by a day... i still got an A in the class though.
