Comment:
Sin Yee is awesome. You have to pay attention in class because there are three exams that make up your whole grade based on lecture content, but if you study your notes, you'll be fine. I loved the lectures and yes, the tests were daunting, but actually pretty interesting and content-related. No other homework besides the three exams was great.

Don't get me wrong, Sin Yee is a hard grader, but I found I could still get an A as long as I actually tried. She is brilliant, engaging, and passionate about philosophy and women's issues. She pushes you to do your best and wants to see you succeed. She comes off a bit intimidating, but she is down to earth and cares a lot about her students

Really stressful class because there are only two tests and one paper which are graded really hard. Also hard to understand her when learning complicated material. You will most likely regret taking this class I know I did.

Sin Yee is not a good professor. She takes 3 assignments and that's your grade for the ENTIRE semester. Philosophy is a subject that leaves room for interpretive thinking, but not her philosophy. Even if you take the best notes in the world, if you don't say EXACTLY what she wants, you'll get a bad grade. A B is hard to come by. Expect low grades.

She has high standards, but she's an extremely caring professor, and if you put in actual effort you'll go far. This is not an easy class, but there's no reason why any college student is incapable of getting a solid B. Willing to help after hours, an overall amazing professor.

Fantastic, funny, brilliant, and engaged. Makes a very respectful and open class. Always available outside of class and extremely helpful in office hours. If you have trouble make sure to stop by and talk it clears everything up. She is a tough grader, but fair. I got from a B- to an A- thanks to her help. I would take another class in a second.

I don't know where to start with Sin Yee. I like her as a human being but as a professor she is not good. She only uses 3 grades for an entire semester and she grades extremely harshly. There is no room for your own viewpoint and if you make a mistake on one of the grades-- you are screwed for the rest of the semester. I do not recommend her course

Sin Yee is sweet and funny and definitely listens to what you have to say. Attendance is randomly taken. She has an accent which might bother some people, but she isn't too difficult to understand. Her writing is a little messy too, but she is always eager to clarify anything she says and writes. Good class!

Extremely intelligent and very organized. There are two papers and two exams that make up your grade, but if you come to class and participate it will help your grade. The topics in this class were extremely interesting, and the readings were never excessive or irrelevant. Sin Yee is really good at facilitating discussion and explaining ideas.

I do not recommend this class to anyone who is not extremely interested in the topic beforehand. It fills a diversity requirement, but I suggest looking elsewhere. Extremely dull class and you won't do well unless you share the same opinion. There's not much room for debating views and it is difficult to understand what she wants. Tough grader.

Sin Yee is the sweetest woman ever. She's always willing to repeat what she says, will accept emails or after-class talk sessions about the course, or life in general. Her exams really easy if you attend her classes. Do NOT take this class if you feel the need to always be right. You will HATE it. She's there to teach the material, not argue it.

Amazing professor. She really cares about what she's teaching, she encourages discussion and questions, she's always available to help. If you go to class and know the material, you will do well on the exams. There are no surprises with her. The material is also quite interesting, and her 30 person classes really complement that.

Sin-Yee is a great professor. Really knows material and the class discussions are very good. She is very helpful and will raise your grade on papers if you had trouble as long as you fix the things you did. EXPLAIN very clearly in your writing and your should be fine. Also taking notes is immensely helpful when it comes exam time. Take her course

Sin Yee is serious about being true to the material she is teaching, so maybe she has one too many readings. Her humor is understated, but enormously refreshing. She's above average when it comes to the difficulty of her grading, because she has high expectations. She's very considerate, kind, and helpful. I would recommend her every time!

Very good professor and clearly conveys a difficult topic to learn. However, the other students in the class all thought they understood what the class was about without reading the literature and that got very annoying.
