Comment:
Skip is vague and the amount of homework given is more suitable for a 4-unit class. He rarely gives feedback on assignments, and when he does it is unhelpful. He deliberately misleads students in class and then embarrasses them if they come up with the wrong solution. He also wastes class time talking about baseball.

Comment:
The class itself is pretty easy if you're savvy with computer commands, but Skip is hit or miss for most. He's a likable guy, but a pretty unlikable teacher. He openly insults you in front of the class for making the wrong suggestions, gives very boring lectures, and has an awkward sense of humor. It's not unbearable, but it can get annoying.

Comment:
Skip is a good professor, but might not be as gentle as some like. He gives you all the tools you need to do well, but it's up to you to pick them up and use them. He will criticize you if he feels like you don't get something that's already been gone over, so be prepared for that. Also be prepared for his corny sense of humor. I learned a lot.

Comment:
Skip is definitely a brilliant professor. He takes a bit to get used to, but if you put the effort into his class it will totally pay off. This class isn't for the faint of heart, but he offers a million extra credit opportunities and it is really your fault if you don't pass this class. I personally liked the guy a lot. Hit or miss though.

This subject is interesting and fun. Skip makes it extremely difficult. I have been a transfer from 2 Universities before I came to Chico, as far as I know, this is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. he doesn't encourage questions, you have to beg him for answers. The problem is that he is the only teacher for Mins 235 in Butte county :(

Overall a great class. Unorthodox interaction with class but the teacher knows his stuff and is willing to give out good grades if you try your best on assignments, seek help when necessary, and attend class. I left the class with a great understanding of SQL and an A.

If you have a question save it for the TA's...He gets upset if someone asks a question and gets upset if no one responds to his questions..Doesn't explain things well and to do well in the class one must have a prior knowledge of database design and sql..Apparently this is an intro to database...hardly that

He is awful at teaching! all he does is go over sql and an extremely fast pace and then when you ask questions he gets mad because he has to explain himself. He is not a good teacher for this class too bad he is the only one!

HORRIBLE, i hate this guy and i like math. he sucks at lecturing because all he does is calculate the homework problems, and ALL of them, even if everyone gets it he will do it over and over until you want to shoot yourself. DON'T TAKE HIM! i hear Dustin Paisley is awesome!

This is a great class. You learn how a database works and doesn't work and how SQL logic works and doesn't work. Contrary to the idiot below, the book is extremely helpful, you just have to read it. It has everything you need to pass the class and (if you read it) you can even figure out how to earn extra credit.

U have to buy txtbook he wrote- its mostly useless & not wellwritten. Test material diff from assignments/lectures. Spent half a class before the final making fun of students who'd made mistakes on an assignment. Makes the class competitive. Saw him NOT correct a students mistake on hw when he was asked for help. Plan to spnd alot o time w/ ta's.

I'm in class right now so you know this is authentic. He has a very dry sense of humor but it's still funny. There is a lot of work but it isn't hard. He knows his stuff... PhD status. I think he is the only MINS 235 prof... but it dosn't matter; I'd take him anyway.

He is jacked up case. Always trying his hard to find people so he can assign them F as their final grade. He knows his stuff really well but just never liked his attitude. Loves to be tricky on his exams. Hope CSU Chico had better instructor teaching SQL.

Having years of experience with databases, I can honestly say that Skip has never had a real job. His teachings are old-school. Doesn't allow you to work with other students, which retarded becuase you work with teams in real life. TA's are impatient and unpleasant to talk to. Projects are silly, but you cans till lear alot from them.

This guy is an idiot. His lectures are as clear as mud. I had a better time going through the assignments by trial and error. I think his TA's are more helpful than him. His inability to speak infront of a class damages his credability. He get's irretated by student's who steal code... it must be a sin in the "Nerd's bible."
