Comment:
Professor Stern is an outstanding professor and entertaining to listen to. He is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the material. However, his lack of structure and organization makes it difficult to determine what he wants in assignments. Half of my papers were never returned or graded, so I'm not even sure how I did, but ended up with A.

This is professor Stern. Im disappointed the last comment shows a lack of regard for education and the course. If the student received an A on take home exams without doing the reading, there is only one explanation for this grade

Lectured in a discussion format every class, you could listen and take notes or sit back on your laptop if he starts to ramble. Take advantage of the choc. milk rule at least once. No tests at all, only 3 assignments in the whole class (3 5-7 pg double space papers based on reading, use the TB index to help with answers). Can get an A w/o reading

Great Prof! Take him before graduating. He sent our class into another class yelling, "RESIST!" We then ran out . The class was on resistance.

One of my least favorite classes. The material was interesting and Stephen is hilarious, however he is a very harsh grader and not very clear as to what he wants. He is also very flighty and unorganized. If you schedule a meeting with him, don't expect him to show up. I regret taking this class.

Great Professor! He doesn't always stick to the syllabus, but you always know what he wants and when he wants it. Tests are demanding, but not surprising. They are fair, but you must come to class and do the reading. Coolest thing: Stern demands you re-write your work if it's below a B and will average the new grade with the old grade.

Stern is crazy in the best way possible. He is brilliant, compassionate, engaging, and personable. He is also disorganized, can't follow a syllabus, and can expect a lot. This was one of my favorite classes and if he were not so disorganized/unpredictable I would have taken many more, they just sadly did not fit into my schedule. Stephen Stern is a professor you have to experience before you graduate.

Stern's teaching style is pretty unorthodox. He very rarely lectures, he prefers to initiate open discussion, challenging students to develop their own perspectives and ideas (which is his ultimate goal). You learn a lot about yourself (inaddition to Stern's childhood and Arizona basketball) through his classes. I recommend his classes to everyone.

Amazing Professor. I learned a great deal about Judaism, life, Arizona basketball, and his childhood in this class. Starts class with a joke, which is a nice start to the day. He is completely fair with grades, and if he knows you and knows you put effort in, will usually help you out with grades. You cannot graduate w/o taking a class with Stern.

I took his class because I heard glowing reviews much like the ones posted here.A class with Stern is an easy A which all too frequently is equated with being a "Good" professor. He is not a good professor. The class I took was a complete waste of time. He's unorganized, repetitive, and somewhat of a walking cliche. A jerk in nice-guy clothing.
