I had Ms. Brisman as a thesis advisor many years ago. She was smart, supportive and inspiring. A great advisor.

One of my favorite professors when I was at Vassar... she gave me incredibly detailed, helpful feedback on my papers and made me a better writer. A fine mind and caring person.

Brisman is a pretty difficult grader and yes, class discussions can be uncomfortably quiet, but she is obviously very knowledgeable of her subject and her comments on papers were always incredibly helpful. Definitely talk to her outside of class and get to know her; I learned as much meeting with her one-on-one as I did in class.

O, the Briz. Don't ever interrupt her. Or else. Nice woman out of class, though, and she's quite educated- Discussions can be dry.

She had us buy a book that we only used for one day of class, plus she was inflexible and narrow-minded. She also didn't know how to initiate discussion. Her method to start a discussion was to say something along the lines of, "okay, now i want you to talk about this piece."

one of my least favorite English classes. Brisman was rigid, humorless, prefered the trappings of scholarship over spontaneous and engaged thinking. not recommended.

As a graduate, I can look back on my VC experience and still remember that I thought Mrs. Brismman was not a terrific teacher. Very dry. Very closed-minded. Discussions ALWAYS lost their focus. Sad because she is a pretty nice person outside the classroom.

Should have retired long ago. Doesn't engage with the material or any new ideas (you're penalized for an original thought that doesn't match up with established scholarship), or know how to run a discussion. Perfect example of flaws in the tenure system. Seriously, boycott her classes.

She's a sweet and harmless but certainly not a lecturer. Her teaching style is dry and aimless and detracts from the literature she teaches rather than adds to it.

goodness, what a snooze! and what a waste of time. I found her feedback to be highly unhelpful in helping me become a better crtical writer and better at structuring an argument. Taking another freshman course has been so much more helpful and has shown me how interesting critical writing can be.

Mrs. Brisman was a great and challenging professor for my freshman course (Poets For Life). Some assignments were dry, but they'll really improve your writing and analyzing skills.
