Does not hand back assignments on time, so you won't really know your grade or if you are doing well. But other than that, a great lecturer and classes are very interesting!! Sometimes, concepts are made unclear so it is important to go to her outside of class with questions, which she loves.

Dr. Hanssen is the reason I came to UD - saw one of her lectures as a high schooler and was immediately infatuated. Brilliant, vibrant woman, incredibly passionate about her subject, and an all around awesome lecturer (very dramatic!). You've got to do a decent amount of date and event memorization and two essays, and her grading is tough but fair.

Ive been fortunate to have many incredible teachers and professors in my life, but none have been as good as Dr. Hanssen. Every time I have a substantive debate or discussion with someone, things I learned in her classes are the first things that come to mind. She expands the realm of thought like no one I have ever met. Take her if you can.

She's a knock-your-socks off adorable professor that reminds me of an American version of Kate Middleton. Very inspiring professor and worth the effort put into the class. She does make you read so many books, and the Gettysburg Address quizzes are frustrating sometimes, but she gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit

Dr. Hanssen is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking. She made a subject that I like one that I'm considering in majoring in. You will have to work hard and be willing to memorize important dates and facts, but in the end, you find yourself wanting to know these facts by heart. A must-take at Dallas.

UD would not be UD without Dr. Hanssen. Her lectures are fascinating, and her timelines make dates much easier to remember.

Dr. Hanssen completely blew my mind every single day. I would find excuses to go to her office hours every week because she is just that amazing. Twelve zillion stars. Tip: read like your life depends on it. Because it does. If you don't take her once, your UD experience would be as empty as the mall without the tower.

She has started giving pop quizzes for Paul Johnson so READ!! Also for written assignments as long as your write what she wants to hear in a scholarly manner than you'll be fine! The tests are the Gettysburg address, a short essay, and then a huge crazy timeline from the whole semester, tests overall are pretty easy

Hanssen is amazing! She will make you love the subject even if you had absolutely no previous interest. Every class is interesting & I always felt like I learned something important. You do have to put in some work to get an A but it's not too hard. I enjoyed her class so much I wanted to sit in on her AmCiv2 class even though I already had credit.

Dr. Susan Hanssen has had the greatest impact on my life here at the University of Dallas. She has not simply taught me to be a good student but to be a good person, a woman, and a friend. She is a tough teacher until you understand the project she is working in. She is tireless, full of enthusiasm and the best choice you could have for a teacher.

Dr. Hanssen is a brilliant individual. Her passion for History is apparent. Be warned that you'll write...A LOT, but all the papers really helped me become better at writing. I actually decided to take her class for AmCiv II. This detail would seem banal if I omitted stating that the class starts at 8am, and I avoid morning clases like the plague!

Dr. Hanssen is fascinating and intelligent Unfortunately, she was not terribly clear about what was most important on the exams (I lost a whole letter grade due to stylistic issues--no joke, I asked her) Just make sure your timelines have the same format as the one she puts on the board (even if a change to the style would provide more information)

What a brilliant woman! Very knowledgeable, but she can be all over the place. She'll make you love history, and at least you know what's on the midterm and final from the onset. Have her once, then decide if you'd like to continue with her for the second semester, too.

Dr. Hansen is an unbelievable prof she makes each class really entertaining. "You are here..." You learn not only Am Civ but also English, Theology, and a little bit of Philosophy as well. Be prepared to work hard, but you know what's on the Mid Term and Final the first day of class. You have to take her at least once. And yes, she is super hot.

She is one of my favorite profs ever! She is crazy tough, but you learn a lot. Granted, it is not what is typically covered in an Am Civ II course, but I feel I have a better understanding of American history than I did before, and now want to question popular belief after reading Henry Adams for myself. Take her class, but be ready to work!!!!!!
