She does tend to ramble, as other reviewers have pointed out, and can be a tough grader, but is pretty understanding of individual student needs. Works best for independent/self-directed students because she isnt much for giving detailed directions, but if you can self motivate and come prepared with work/ideas for your projects, class isnt hard

I took anthro 103 during my first semester, but it wasn't awful. The exams were pretty easy and, while Kus is a picky paper grader, I always did fairly on them. The class could be fairly boring at times and she tends to ramble, but as long as you pay attention to lecture and look over the study guides, the class should be pretty easy.

This prof was terrible. she not only rambles during lectures, but doesnt test on anything regarding what she spends nearly the entire class talking about. she is confusing and assigns material that bashes nearly every field besides her own. attempts to brainwash students to conform to her ideology. talks about herself constantly and is degrading

She comes off as a really chill professor in lecture, then you get the study guide and your graded work. There are no rubrics , grades aren't numbers- they're letters. How do you average letters? The critiques on papers don't make sense or are ridiculously nit picky. That being said, she's there if you need her, even if her advice isn't clear.

Kus was without a doubt the worst professor I have ever had at Rhodes, and the worst teacher I have had in my entire academic career. She is unprofessional and frankly ignorant of how to run a successful class. Every second I was in that classroom I wanted to die. I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. Absolute trash.

Comment:
Grading was arbitrary and inconsistent; lectures were often incomprehensible (professor tends to babble). Extremely nit-picky on essays and short answers but offers no suggestions for improvement. Rigid and inflexible style (you can only be right if you do things her way). Overall a disappointing class, largely due to her lackluster teaching style.

Dr. Kus was so nice & smart. Her enthusiasm was inspiring. Anything about Africa can be dense & thus too much to take in, so there were dull moments @ times. But, the class was a great experience. She is very anal about syntax & format on papers, which can be agitating, being that it wasn't an English class... nice grader & loves Madagascar! :-)

Lots and lots of reading, tests are hard because questions are very specific. I found the class in general extremely dull, and always dreaded going. Kus is a nice lady, though.

Professor Kus is a really good teacher. She cares more about the students learning than them making a grade. She is intimidating at first, but is really nice. She is by far one of the best teachers at Rhodes.

I took Anthro to fulfill a foundations requirement, and I ended up really enjoying the class - both because of the material and because of Professor Kus. Her personal field experience and love of the subject made the class memorable, and I don't believe it was an overly challenging class - not a pushover, but a nice difficulty level.

This course was very interesting. Kus is VERY passionate and interested in her subject. This course unique and you could tell that she really enjoyed teaching it. It was not too hard but there was a lot reading and papers than I had expected. Kus was always very approachable and friendly

I've always been inspired by teachers over subject matter in classes, and her love and enthusiasm for Anthropology inspired me to become an ANSO major. She assigns a lot of material and has pretty high performance standards, but if you take the class seriously and do the work you'll be fine. Best Anthro teacher at the school.

Very generous grader on papers, the exams were hard but they got curved a whole letter grade. The reading assignments were average and nothing hard to grasp. Has an obvious love for anthro but understands not everyone does. Movies were boring but school oriented movies always are. Anyone who thinks this class is hard/bad is an idiot.

For an intro class, Kus is very demanding. You will have more readings in this class than in most intoductory courses, but the material is interesting and relevant, and Kus has an infectious passion for anthropology. If you want to learn Anthropology, take Kus, but if you want an easy A take someone else.

Dr. Kus is a very difficult professor because she has fairly high expectations of her students. I appreciate that and, while I didn't enjoy how demanding she was at the time, looking back I see that her pushing me was exactly what I needed. If you are looking for an easy grade, look elsewhere. If you want to learn, Dr. Kus will make sure you do.

One cardinal rule of Rhodes: do NOT take Kus' anthro 101 class. The idea of that class being "intro" to anything is a joke... we're talking about a ton of reading, nitpicky multiple choice questions, and essay questions that focus on the ridiculously obscure... very tough. I think she's actually nice, but that class needs some rethinking...

Assigns more readings than can be discussed in class. Will see you in office hours, though doesn't really help. Don't take the grades personally, she's inconsistent and unfair. Tends to be very unclear on assignments. Readings were interesting.

For a 200 level class, she gave SO much work. She's mean. She's boring. This class was the bane of my existence this semester. I will NEVER take a course from her again and I have suggested the same to all my friends.

Condescending. Not nice. Took what could have been a great class and ruined it for me. If you're interested in the subject, take a different prof.
