Comment:
Really bad professor. Her lectures are rushed and unclear. She doesn't give time for questions and is unhelpful and vague in office hours. I basically taught the material to myself. It seemed like she was constantly overwhelmed and didn't know how to handle the class. However, I've heard she's much, much better for classes that aren't EGR220.

I loved taking EGR 100 with Susan. The class was really fun and I learned a lot of intro skills. Her lectures are interesting and informative, although she goes off on tangents sometimes. She is not the most organized professor, but she never penalizes you for it. If you are struggling she is quite helpful and understand if you talk to her.

Comment:
The class was split about in half, with the first quarter talking about some science and discussion of ethics and design, and the second half was a group project building solar powered houses. I didn't learn a ton of new facts but the house project was a good intro to engineering. Susan was very accommodating and helpful outside of class.

Acoustics is a rarely offered class in many colleges so it is lucky we have professor Voss here at Smith. She gives amazing lectures and is really passionate about teaching. Very helpful outside of class in office hours. Homework is challenging but illuminating. Exams are mostly take home and if you do the homework well, you will do great on Exams.

Signals and Systems does not sound like a fun class but having professor Voss made it one of my favorite classes in my entire Smith education. She gives explicit lectures on materials that are otherwise very confusing if to be learned on one's own. Assignments are fair and plainly reflect materials taught in class (take heed in lectures!).

She is a really great professor. I'm not sure why everyone believes that she should be responsible if YOU YOURSELF don't do the work, but she was a really fair grader (and to be fair, I got my fair share of Bs on some papers), but she was always considerate. I had so much fun in the class, and it was one of the reasons I stayed in engineering. 3

Really not very good at teaching. I learned almost all of the material from outside resources (textbook and kahn academy). Very picky grader and doesn't care about deep understanding of the concepts.

At the beginning, she seemed interested in the work I was doing. Because she is the Director, she was more interested in things outside the classroom and came to the lecture disorganized. I found help outside the classroom and at times outside the department. This is sad for my first experience in engineering.

She ambushed me with papers at the very end of the semester. I worked very hard to complete them but forgot one 2-page (frankly, unimportant) reflection assignment which turned out to be 10% of my total grade. In the end, my grade (which should have been an A) was a B. All the other writing assignments (of which there were 5) were only 4% each.

She's very nice, but as the head of the engineering department she's very busy which leads to her being rather disorganized. A lot of times she says one thing and then does another, isn't prepared for lecture, or forgets to tell you something but still grades you on it.

Susan Voss is a great professor but the material is hard. You need to put in time for this class and attend her office hours. If you do this, you will succeed. Just be prepared for a lot of work. I highly recommend Susan Voss.

I had Susan for EGR 100. She was so clear explaining content and always willing to help. I learned a lot from her class. She was very positive despite the fact that half the class was struggling from the ridiculously rigorous project. She's very friendly and down to earth.

Professor Voss is a great professor if you are willing to put in the effort in her class. She is extremely clear and is willing to help you succeed (if you actually care about the class).

WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Do not take a single class with her! She is very biased and picks favorites, and she treats you badly if she thinks youre going to fail her class. She hardly makes time for you in her office hours cause she's too busy with her own work to care about yours.

Go to the TA. Her teaching skills were not compatible with my learning skills. She plays favorites. She is also somewhat biased. If you ask her for help, she asks you why did you not come earlier. She supports your decision to change it pass/fail or drop the class just to not lead you on into thinking you will be successful in the class.
