He is very strict when it comes to writing. Sir what are you looking for elaborate please. Most stressful class Ive ever taken. Honestly hes a very nice guy but he WILL diminish your confidence and publicly attack you work. Just hope you can take it.

Ted didn't seem to think my work was very good at the beginning of the semester, but he told me how to do better because he knew I could. My writing has improved immensely since taking his class. Defiantly one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever had.

Ted helped push and blossom my work into something so much more. Even though I wrote in a genre he admitted did not interest him, he found my writing interesting and even encouraged me to turn in the whole 150 page piece of fiction for my final (which he read fully). Easily the most helpful creative writing professor I have ever had.

Here's my beef with Ted: You get a B unless your stories fit HIS preferences. Meaning, he has to like your story and it has nothing to do with the mechanics of writing. I took him for Fiction I and as much as I enjoyed the class, I though he was vague and at times calloused towards students' writing. I did, however, like him as a person.

Took fiction 1, and I'm just sorta disappointed. Dr. Lyons' feedback was very oriented to his own preferences. It was an entirely workshop discussion based class, and as there were no incentives to actually read other students works and write critiques, discussion got increasingly poor throughout the semester.

I had Ted Lyons as a creative writing professor for three semesters. Creative writing is not something to be taught, it's something to be developed. This is how Ted teaches. Classes are always entertaining and insightful. Take Ted's class if you want a class that will help you develop as a creative writer.

One of the weirdest yet most fun teacher I've ever. You can chose not to attend class if you write him an excuse. He was pretty flexible with the due dates of works. You need to print your works to the entire class and be comfortable with participating. Overall I enjoyed the class.

He will change your life. Wonderfully. No kidding. Time management and organization isn't exactly his strength but everything else wonderful counteracts that so it's okay. He will definitely help you improve as a writer.

intro to creative writing...although he warmed up toward the end of the semester, he was crazy. he seemed to be very distracted most of the time. his criticism was good, but has AWFUL time mgmt skils. all we did was read other people's work in class... we never got a chance to workshop or revise our work. very disappointed in the class.

So nice to see Ted is still walking the halls of Kent, I had him as a teacher in 1990 (ugh!) and also spent a good deal of time with him (as his server at the A&Q Diner) and at the Tav. He is an all around great guy, a character out of a good movie...if you get a chance to take one of his classes you should--he's not your average teacher!

I love Ted! Great prof. Clear, engaging, polite, knowledgeable. One of the gems of an otherwise terrible english dept. Anyone who doesn't enjoy his class has to be insane. Impossible to make angry. He made us cookies one day!!!

His class was my favorite I've taken so far. He really pays attention to your writing and it's clear he wants you to improve. The class focuses on OUR writing rather than professional. Every two weeks we all read and critique each others' writing and that helps a lot too. I highly recommend him.

Good creative writing class, but don't take it if you can't handle criticism, that was the whole point. Sometimes fellow students are afraid to say what they think and Ted will often take care of the difficult criticism, but he's supposed to be more of a moderator. Also, you're bound to run into him at the bars... pretty fun guy.

You're college experience will not be the same with this man. He's so fantastic. You have to turn in works every two weeks, sometimes to share with the class sometimes just for him and you do 2 oral presentations. It is such a fun and easy course and he's completely insane, and in a wonderful way.

Super goofy dude. I loved him as a prof! He had us over to his house for pancakes and vodka. I think his brother was sleeping on the couch the whole time.
