Comment:
Professor Romack is a very smart professor but he makes you have to teach yourself out side of class. And he doesn't curve much, so if you're looking for a class to slack off in and easily pass he is not for you. Yes he drops quiz grades and a few homework grades.

Romack is a solid choice of orgo professor if you learn best from listening to lecture and writing down lots of examples. Orgo 1 is a tough class, but he makes it as enjoyable as he can. He tries to crack jokes when appropriate and is very approachable with questions on anything. He pushes everyone to study & do practice problems; do them, it helps

Romack was good professor overall. Smart guy, not great at explaining. He makes a better scientist than a teacher. However, his flexibility and genuine desire to help students made enough of a personal impact I decided to take him again for Orgo 2. BE PREPARED TO STUDY!

Gives mandatory online homework and optional textbook problems. Frustrating because he skips around in the book, so it's hard to follow if you read the textbook. He does some general information refreshers on info from gen chem. Expect quite a lot of memorization for the tests. He might be a good professor but his teaching style doesn't work for me

I took Orgo I during Summer Session 2, although the nature of the course was very fast paced Dr. Romack did everything he could to ensure that we understood the material and were successful. Dr. Romack curved tests when necessary, dropped the lowest quiz grades (3 out of 10), and even adjusted his grade scale to accommodate us. Strongly recommend!

An amazing guy. Organic chemistry is not an easy subject for most people, but Dr. Romack makes the class interesting and has a fantastic way of teaching. I can't say enough good things about this prof!!! Do the assigned book problems, GO TO HIS OFFICE! Work hard and you won't regret it!

I have him for orgo 1 and will be taking him for 2 in the fall. By far one of the MOST CARING professors I've had! Go to his office hours and he will do ANYTHING to help! His exams are exactly the book problems he assigns, but does not grad. JUST DO THEM ANYWAYS. Organic is not an easy class, you have to work for it regardless of the professor!

I had Dr. Romack for lab, and he is awesome. It is expected that you read before lab, but if you put forth the work, he is very willing to help. He grades very fairly. He is also a genuine person who is very interesting to talk to. He is also very accessible and helpful during office hours. He is very smart and shares his knowledge with the class.

Take anyone (even Huo) other than him. He's one of the most intelligent people I've met but teaching is NOT his forte. Class exam averages looked like Greenville temperatures in January (53-63 for hourly exams, 62 for the final.) Had him for Org 1&2. He singlehandedly ruined both of my semesters.

I had Dr. Romack during Summer 2. The class was fast due to a short period session. He teaches straight from the book, so recommended to have one. He expects you to open your book and do practice questions. He curves the exam when necessary and when he realized that the exam was hard. Do the book homework even if he is not grading it and ask.

Had him for 1st Summer Orgo I and 2nd Summer Orgo II. You can tell he became burnt out as the summer went on. Orgo I was obtainable, however, he lectured literally from the book in orgo II. He's a super nice guy, just operates on a higher level than others and struggles to break it down. However, he will work for the ones that work for themselves.

DON'T TAKE HIM, ESPECIALLY OVER THE SUMMER, HE DOESN'T TEACH, JUST DRAWS STRUCTURES, AND HE TAUGHT NEW MATERIAL THE DAY BEFORE TEST, LEAVING NO TIME TO STUDY. IT'S LIKE HE WANTS YOU TO FAIL.

He's not fair and it's like he sets you up to fail, he doesn't care about his students, he draws random structures doesn't explain how he got what, and he rushes through slides. He doesn't have structure at all, disorganized, and over half of my class failed his tests. He doesn't care about his students passing, he's here for research not to teach

I will say that Dr. Romack is incredibly fair, and expects you to work for a good grade. While I came away with an A, I practically memorized the textbook and did hundreds of practice problems. He is very disorganized and moves tests around for no reason. If you're a person who operates on a tight schedule, I wouldn't recommend Romack.

Hands down the most challenging professor that I've ever had undergrad. His tests are very complicated, he doesn't give much assistance or guidance in how to study either than do book problems. Be prepared to live at the tutoring center or get extra help from other faculty members because his office hours are practically nonexistent.

Take another professor. He does not teach you the information, he gives it to you, then expects you to apply it on the exam. He rushes through the information during his lectures which are long and boring. If you want to pass this class, plan on learning everything on your own. I dropped the course and am taking Dr. Allen this semester. MUCH BETTER

Dr Romack is a cool guy, but he rushes through lectures to squeeze in as much information as he can, gives an insane amount of homework which he grades like a test, and has difficult tests. This is a hard class no matter the professor, but he makes it harder than it should be. The homework doesn't help with the tests, its busy work and graded hard.

Spring 2015. Read over your lab & write out detail oriented lab instructions before lab. Be prepared to take a pre-lab quiz before entering the lab. If you follow your hand written instructions & pay attention to detail, you should get between an A or a B. Adds 10 pts extra credit to final exam grade at the end of the semester for cleaning lab

He is a nice man, but a horrible teacher! If it were not for the wonderful T.A's I would have blown my brains out! He cannot communicate concepts or answer questions without making you more confused. Do not take him!
