Comment:

Tom Callinan is a true asset to Rio Hondo. He truly goes above and beyond for his students because he loves his job. He is caring, kind, funny and inspirational. He is also very blunt and he weeds out any lazy people in the beginning. His class is for COLLEGE STUDENTS so don't expect easy. Gives extra credit. Thanks for being the best Mr. C (:

This teacher is very tough on grading essays, but gives very excellent lectures. He expects you to participate in class or else hell... cuse (not joke). He tells you the truth about English that other teachers say its true. Hes willing to help you with English essays and grammar. It could be stressful at first, but at the end its worth it!

The best professor ever. I took him for English 30 on my freshman year, it was not essay but I learned a lot. He is alway willing to help you. Just be responsible in his class and you will pass.

This is honestly one of the worst professors I've ever taken in my life. Not only does he literally spend 1/3 of the semester ranting about stupid stuff. His grading policy Is malarkey. He curses at you when taklking during class. The way the whole class is structured and operated is wrong and annoying. I would never ever take this pos again.

A great teacher. His teaching style will help you achieve much more than you thought you could in terms of analyzing and understanding literature. A tough but worthwhile course. Would definitely take again!

I'm getting ready to submit Ph.D apps which has me looking back at academic writing samples I've collected over the years, and I found the paper I wrote for this class. I remember him being a tough dude who focused on the students who wanted to be there, as such I got a kick-ass paper that still holds it's weight 6 years later. Thanks Mr. C :)

Hardest class I have ever taken, Tom is an amazing prof. and he actually teaches students how to write. Take this class if you want to learn how to write and actually want to learn. If you take this class not caring, I guarantee you will not pass or you will be kicked out. Besides that he cares about your learning and gives amazing feed back.

He is a great teacher who not only pushes the student to do good in class but also outside of class and in other classes. He gives work after every class meeting. Writing skills will improve a lot by the end of the semester. He will kick you out if you don't show up to class or show up with no homework. recommend if you want improve in writing.

Well he is a very tough teacher that is not for those that are not willing to do homework. I f you want an easy A he is not the teacher for you but if you are willing to take on challenges then he is your teacher! Favorite Professor so far but definitely not the easiest. Will highly recommend for you to take him!

I LOVE THIS ENGLISH TEACHER! I took his class a while back in 2014 of fall. His lectures and the way he teaches is high quality and I used to HATE english and thought I'd never understand the english at all cause of the amount of crap teachers I've had. His humor is also great and his assignments are great in suspense.

I took him for Spring 2015 for engl 35. He comes off as a rude guy, specially when he talks about people "our age' (18-25 or so) but he just has strong views OVERALL he has a caring side. He wants students to learn how to write properly. He wont give you and easy A unless you earn it. His work is time consuming but easy Prepare to write good essays

Homework a must!! At the start of class I got no credit on my homework, but the comments helped me make corrections and we got to work with classmates every day. I learned to work harder, I also learned how to work with the tutor. Definately alot of work but I learned more than in any other Engl class. Good readings, stick it out!!! Don't slack!!

Believe it or not this professor wants his students to fail I repeated his class twice and he does the same thing He is EXTREMELY strict in the beginning He purposely drops so many students for the dumbest reasons Skip class he wont let you come back Then at the end he gives a good grade to the remainder of students which is like only 10 students

Mr. C's cares about his students. The lectures are interesting and he gives samples. Bring books and binder to every class. He will ask you to leave if the homework is not done. We did not use a textbook so he gives handouts. The novels were interesting for group diacussions. The class tutor was helpful too, stressful class but fun.

Rio Hondo REMOVE THIS TEACHER FROM THIS COLLEGE He enjoys making students feel worthless Its very creepy how he smiles after telling off students and kicking them out of class He humiliated the girl next to me because he saw her asking me for paper He told her to drop out of college and get out of his class MORE THAN HALF OF THE CLASS DROPPED OUT!!

Awful professor Ask anyone they will tell you the same thing He enjoys kicking students out every day He humiliates you He is very narcissistic and he brags about atheism Then he laughs about it I've seen him kicking students out of class everyday We were all scared of him The class started with 35 students ended up with 12 DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!

Professor Callinan's class was by far the most challenging class I've ever taken, but also the most enjoyable. Callinan taught us so many crucial terms, knowledge, and insight into excelling and being successful as an English major. You must work hard in this class to earn a grade, but it is truly awesome if you meet him halfway! 100% worth it.

He's inspirational in the way he talks to his students. Rather sarcastic at times but a REALLY good professor. Best way to learn English with great understanding. He made class easy. if you don't have a sense of humor you're in the wrong class. EXTREMELY recommended!!!!

One of the best if not the best professor I have had so far. He makes you work hard for the grade you want and makes you realize that not only you matter but everyone in the classroom as well. I really enjoyed this class because of his lectures and sarcasm. Professor Callinan makes you want to better yourself and makes you push harder to succeed.

He pushes you to your limits and you may hate him while you're in his class but it was by far my most rewarding college class to date. He gives extremely specific instruction on how papers should be done and that has changed my writing technique for forever. Top notch teacher. He will kick your butt into shape. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
