Comment:
I felt he relied too much on power points and provided very little of his own teaching. He was inconsistent with expectations in coursework, in terms of what he expected us to learn and what we were expected to accomplish. He is very personable, nice and can tell interesting stories. But overall I was consistently and constantly frustrated.

Tom loves plants and he has a great time. He does a fine job of imparting knowledge and I would recommend him. His final project is very labor intensive which he warns you about...take him seriously.

I took Tom's botany class last term. He is extremely intelligent, passionate, and well versed in the subject matter he teaches. Botany itself requires use of a fair amount of specialized terminology, so be prepared to study. Not an easy class, but very rewarding if you put the time in. I would gladly take a class with Tom again.

Prof Tom is an excellent, EXTREMELY patient teacher. His classes aren't very hard if you are willing to do the work. There is ALWAYS extra credit on the exams- and the essay questions are given in advance. I recommend his classes for anyone interested in the environment

Difficult class, and a bit confusing for someone who has not taken a science class with a lab before. Challenging material, but very interesting and professor stimulates interest beyond just the class by going into the field. Encouraging, supportive, funny and fairly consistent in expectations.

Horrible teacher. Grades lab books unfairly. Yes, he is passionate about the material and is very knowledgeable, but he is NOT a good teacher.

I had Dr. Tom for both his BI141,2,3 series, and his ESR series. He's an engaging lecturer, provides terrific lecture notes, and also provides study guides for each exam. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere, but if you really want to learn the material and have fun doing it, take him. Highly recommended.

This class was a lot harder than I expected! Tom is a great teacher and will help when you ask for it but don't be fooled into thinking you can show up to class, take good notes and get an A..you really have to know your stuff, especially details you otherwise wouldn't consider. Labs were so much fun! Can't wait to have him again in the Fall!

I took him for Environmental Science and Botany, and really enjoyed his classes. He takes you into the field often, which I really liked. Sometimes he is unclear in his lectures, so make sure to ask questions. He goes over a lot of material (especially in Botany) and his tests are unpredictable, but he is a nice guy and good professor.

I had Tom for several biology and ESR classes. He was great, not easy - but treated us like college students. He was fair and very enthusiatic. I am now at Portland STate Univ. masjoring in Env. Science and he is sorely missed.

I took his Forest Habitats class. He's fabulous and passionate as a teacher and the class is fascinating! This class is not for the lazy. The class really does need a pre-req of BI-101 if you haven't taken a science class in many years. I did a lot of on the side reading to remind me because there isn't a basic textbook for his class.
