All exams are fill in the blank with no word boxes. you need to memorize people, dates and events and know them in detail. She gives a lot of pop quizzes, also do the RSG because you never know when she's going to collect it. if you don't wanna work hard don't take her as a professor.

Dr. Harvell is a little crazy but a great prof. Just read the book, do the RSG, highlight the book, answer for points and some in-class pop quizzes. She might collect the RSG only did it once for my class. A lot of extra credit at the end since my class asked for it and it can even bring you over an A which can make you not take her final.

This class was hard, but once you get the hang of DR. Harvell's teaching methods, you'll pass. Be respectful, don't miss any classes or show up late, participate in reading and answering questions, read the required chapters prior to class, and DO YOUR RSG's when she gives them out!!! Why can't all professors be like Dr. Harvell? She is AWESOME!

Dr. Valerie Harvell is the Goat. If you failed her class it was out of fear of it being too hard. When you are in tune with her then there is no such thing as difficult. She is forever going to be my favorite teacher. And the main reason I would even stay at Penn State.

If you don't get an A in this class, you didn't try. Two extra credit assignments turned my C into an A. Just show up, she gives you what you need to study. Do extra credits obviously. The final is one big extra credit assignment. (Doesn't count against you, whatever you score is points added to your grade)

I loved taking her class. Though her lectures were a little all over the place it was enjoyable. Do the rsgs they're a great study guide for the tests. She doesn't want her students to fail and will try to help you out. I missed a class cause of an accident and she let me make it up even though thanksgiving break was the next week.

Harvell is a very passionate professor. She does expect you to read and she gives you homework. RSG's (Reading study guides) are gold FOR THE TESTS. She makes the class very interesting and if you don't read you will be lost. But don't worry, she makes you want to read the books. Stay on top of your work! She is a must have teacher!

Harvell is a fantastic professor with captivating lectures. She does tend to go off on tangents every now and then. Make sure to read the RSGs - pay attention to dates! Her tests are tough, but study study study the RSGs and you should be fine! Lots of extra credit opportunities too! You have to try hard to fail this class.

Great person, very confusing at times. Her stories keeps the classroom alive. Exams and quizzes are hard, her reviews are never clear. You will pass the class if you show up and participate and stick around until the end. You are guaranteed a C if you show up and show effort.

Dr. Harvell is a great person but a very tough professor. That said, you will pass her class no matter what if you stay until the end. She does not fail people who come all the time and show effort. You will pass with a C. She is very kind and is very understanding but she can be extremely confusing with exam reviews. Her exams are hard.

this professor's lectures are one to listen to. although the lectures are great and there is never a dull moment in her class, her exams are tough!!!!! really read the RSG she hands out and follow along during lecture. you never know when she may say not to worry about studying a certain page because it won't be on the quiztest.

this class was unclear and confusing! she is very sporadic and quite judgmental with rude statements every class. says tests are 98% study guide which is not true. does not tell grades until it is too late. I would never take her course again unless I had too. asks for uneeded textbooks, so wastes money.

She can be funny, but her jokes can be inappropriate. she seems knowledgeable/passionate, but she's too focused on student behavior in class (how you sit, how you respond, how you highlight). i felt like i was in elementary school. her thoughts are all over the place at times. dropped her class even though she seemed like easy A

I loved Dr.Harvell class!! She is very informative and passionate about what she teaches. The class is easy-IF YOU DO THE WORK! Rsg's can be lengthy & are a huge part of your grade, but the information is right in the text. DON'T BE LAZY-DO THE WRK, get an A! And participate! She appreciates it! I would absolutely take her again and I recommend!

Comment:

Dr. Harvell is one of the most interesting and knowledgeable professors on campus. Shes one of the best at Abington. I took her for MLK and Malcolm X and got A's in both, but not easily. RSG's can be a killer sometimes. Taking one of her courses will enrich your life... I scheduled my third one for next semester.

Dr.Harvell is an amazing teacher as long as you do your work. If you are having a hard time she is more than happy to help you the best that she can. Only down side to Harvell is she is always late to class but always makes up for it.
