Comment:

You watch a lot of movies and only have 2 tests for the year so you cannot get a low grade on it! Keep track of movies and their story lines. It is hard to remember all the movies on your own so re-watch if you need to. You don't need the book bc the questions are on quizlet but for the final exam you may need the book. Take notes is all I can say!

History of Film 1 you are only graded on the midterm and final. His lectures are pretty boring along with the films he makes you watch. No need to get the textbook, it isn't useful. His midterm and final are all true/false so they're pretty easy.

In History of Film 1 you are graded on 2 things; a midterm and final. Both are all True/False (the final has some open responses). The answers to the T/F statements are all on quizlet. You do not need the book at all. Show up, listen to him talk for over an hour, then watch films. Easiest A but class can be VERY boring and long.

Class was graded only on the midterm and final, both worth 50% of your total grade. Doesn't lecture with a PowerPoint, hand writes everything on the board. Hand writing is all over the place and loses track of his lecture very easily. Gives you a study guide for the exams a week beforehand. Required textbook is written by his friends and is $200.

He only graded us on 2 tests that where all true/false witch you can find online as they appear during the test. He knows this but doesn't care. Half the class is watching movies you can find online and hearing personal stories that dont have to do with class. Hes kinda boring a really in love with him self. Kinda rude at times as well.

Had him for history of film. Easy A, all we did was watch movies and then talk about them. Never had to use the book. He gives you the quiz ahead of time and the answers are easy to find online.

Professor Munson doesn't have much respect for students outside of the Comm Media department. I took his class as an IDIS major and he basically laughed at me. Don't dare miss any classes or show up late. I misses one classes and showed up late to another and forgot to sign the attendance and he tried to make me withdraw from the course. Classless.

took him for media crit and he literally taught me nothing. doesn't use any medium except film and just teaches film theory. he rambles on for the entire 3 hour class unless we're watching a film. grades outrageously and only has a midterm and final--horrible class, avoid at all costs. even if you like film, you will hate this.

Went to class for 3 hours to listen to him ramble. He knows what he is talking about, but has never actually prepared any lecture which leads to him getting off topic a lot. He isn't very helpful and barely explains the subject nor assignments. He just expects you to get it. Very enjoyable class.

I am a nursing major and therefore had not interest going in. Each class we just discussed the previous movie and then watched another. The only grades were midterm and final. On those tests he gave us the test to find the answers to a week before.

Take Contemporary Cinema with him. Can't see how you can go wrong. Prepare well for the midterm and write a good paper and you're all set. Doesn't explain much in class but like in any other you have to do a lot of reading and researching on your own. You got to just come to class and watch movies. What more can you ask for? Avoid if necessary.

He is a terrible professor. AVOID! He only grades you on a midterm and final. He takes attendance but not sure where that fits in. Classes are useless because the exams are true/false statements straight out of the book. He gives them to you a week before the exam. Going to class is useless. Learn nothing. Talks with his eyes closed.

Avoid him at all costs! He will ruin your GPA! The only grades you will have from him are 3 in-class essays. If you do poorly on one you're already knocked down to a 3.0. Extremely harsh grader and has no idea how to keep class interest. The books he gives don't help AT ALL. Don't bother buying them and don't bother taking the class. STAY FAR AWAY!

Boring isn't enough describe him. He loses concentration and makes comments to himself. 3 grades in the class or 4 if you choose to do 2 essays in one class period. Books used are useless and have none of the info he talks about and his notes are useless so the class is alot harder then it should be. He often forgets everything. AVOID HIM

Comment:

Depends on your interest in Communications - way too many "isms" for me. But Dr. Munson is nice. He is monotonous and his notes are very disorganized, it's hard to pay attention. He's a nice guy and he'll help you outside of class, obviously knows a lot about what he teaches, though it'd be nice if the classes were more stimulating.
