Dr. Atkinson is a very good teacher. History is boring, at least to me, and reading the book is a nightmare, but Atkinson's lectures make the class worth attending. He has very clever remarks and interesting stories in his talks, and you can tell he works hard to keep the class interested. Most of us have to take this class, so take it with him.

I was warned. Should have listened. I went from A's to C's. I learned lots in class, but not reflected in my grades. Teaches even freshman history like teaches graduates, and admits it! Exams only source of grades: 2 essays, 5 "definitions." Each definition must be mini-essay. All this in hour & a half exam. Much too tough on undergrads. DO NOT rec

Prior to the first class, I was very interested in history. In clas he just rambles on and gets off topic and he is very hard to follow. He only gives exams and he grades pretty hard. I would definitely not reccomend him. I couldnt understand him enough to learn a single thing.

Everyone gripes about Atkinson but he's really not that bad! As long as you take good notes and study before tests, you can at least get a C. If you want to make an A or B, you need to read the book. His lectures aren't boring..and I hate history so if he could keep my interest that's a good thing! I recommend him unless you're REALLY lazy!

He is an excellent teacher but grades his tests (no homework or other grades) extremely hard. If you get an A in his class, you are an excellent writer, all tests are 2 essay question and 5 paragraph definition. Support your statements, read the book, take excellent notes...you may get a B.

I would recommend this class if you are actually interested in learning something. He is definiately not a blow off. Overall he makes you work hard, but it is work it if you want an education.

He's very hard, but you know on day 1 what he expects from you. Take VERY detailed notes. Yes he was a hard teacher, but for some reason he drilled the information into your head so much that you remembered it. Read the book is a must to pass.
