10/10 would never take him again. He was really nice as a person and lectures were moderately entertaining. Probably 75% of the class didn't even attend lectures, as long as you use Study Edge you'll get the material. Do as many practice problems as possible and study as much as you can.

Dolbier might have been good in the past but his return to teaching says otherwise. His handwriting is completely illegible, rendering his lectures and notes somewhat useless as well as dry. Study Edge and self-teaching are the only means of learning the material. Exams are hard as expected. He tries to "care," but he is ineffective as a teacher

He's a good professor, but hard to understand and read his notes. His exams are exactly like his practice exams, definitely get study edge! I didn't go to class ever, got 100s on all the homeworks, made the average on all the exams, and got a B. EXTREMELY doable. Better than portmess or guo. people complaining didn't put in the effort

Dolbier is a nice guy, his teaching style is not. Although he is very accessible outside class with his office door wide open, I never felt his office hours helped me. He is a very smart man that does not seem capable of "dumbing down" material for a student. If you're honest with yourself and believe you cannot make an "A", take someone else.

Many people in the comments section say he is a great professor when their comments are very misleading. About 10% of 200+ students were able to be exempt from the final exam and they are most likely those people. Lectures are extremely hard to follow as well as the "notes." Study Edge is a must, take it VERY seriously and the practice exams.

Dolbier is a great person and professor. Nothing to be afraid of at all, his test booklet has questions that are very similar to the exams themselves and as long as you stay proactive, you will end up in the A cut off. Study Edge is absolutely necessary. If you get an A you don't have to take the final. Best option outside of Portmess and Guo.

Notes are very hard to follow and he doesn't explain very well. Study Edge helps a lot for his exams! Just watch the chapter and exam reviews and you will be good. Curve is nice.

I was fortunate to have him for orgo 1&2. He is very helpful at office hours and gets to know you if you're a regular. I got an A in 1, but had some personal stuff going on during 2. He expressed concern about my dropping grades and encouraged me to go back to office hours, which is truly great for a class of that size. Get his book of tests.

Summer A 2012 made 50% a C, 67% a B, and 82% an A. Extremely doable if you study the material daily. Highly suggest attending StudyEdge and his practice test book is a must! Overall great class and great teacher

I took him Summer B and it was the best decision I've ever made. Do as many textbook problems as you can, go to TutoringZone or StudyEdge as supplement, but more than that go to office hours! He's super helpful and really nice. His tests are pretty fair and his curve is wonderful.

Not the easiest teacher ever, but he's consistent. His exams follow the same model every time - 2 pages of predict the product, some "which is a stronger _____" questions, a couple of mechanism questions, some short synthesis, and some long synthesis. I didn't take him for CHM2210 but I still did well in the course.

Thought he would be a nice guy.. Doesn't do a lot of explaining. You will need to go to office hours, other tutors, and study really hard to do good on his test. I felt like I studied hard and would fail everyday. Only 3 test and a final determine your grade. Didn't want to help me even though I was failing..

Great teacher! Gives clear, decent lectures. I would recommend recording them just for reference when looking over the notes. Also, get his ultimate package. It's like $50, but it's so worth it, because you can see the kinds of questions he would ask (it's nothing like the book). Study hard and don't procrastinate. Good luck!

Going to office hours with a group of students is the best thing you can do. He will basically reteach that day's lecture. Best way to learn Orgo is through repetition. Great teacher. Make sure to buy his test packet and do alot of the exams. Take good notes. If you do all of these, you should get an A.

Honestly, he is my favorite teacher here. He's a very laid-back and down to earth professor that goes out of his way to help his student understand the material. Summer A organic 1 seems daunting at first, but his old exams and office hours are the keys to an A. I wish I could have had him for 2211 though! Wonderful person and great professor!!

Awesome professor, highly recommend for summer A. Of course, the class is hard, it's orgo. Study everyday, do all the practice problems he assigns, and get his old exam packet. Also, go to his office hours. He's very nice and helpful.

His class is extremely challenging. A few Indian kids always ruin the curve of exams. I got A's in all gen chem courses and busted my ass studying for his class AND went to tutoring zone and still ended up with a C.

I had dolbier for 2 semesters. I got an A in both orgo 1 and 2. He is a GREAT teacher. You need to read the book if you want to do well. I suggest reading it BEFORE class, but if you are a crammer... just read the book along with his notes and you will do fine. AWESOME curve too! great man and I will miss him =[

OK professor. He assumes you know way more then you probably do. Tests are a challenge, but doable. His curve is AMAZING. You have to read the book though because he does not go into detail about the basics. Its basically a teach yourself type of situation. His notes help, but there is a lot of outside resources you will probably have to use.
