Alan White was one of the professors at UTC who had a profound effect on my life. He is a sensitive artist, cares about his students, and expects a lot from them. He inspired me with a love of painting that has continued until this day.

I learned so much in this class. Yes, the vocabulary he expects you to learn is daunting at first, but things are taken slowly, so you have time to learn. He's not afraid to critique your work, and he's honest about where he thinks you need improvement. If you try hard and don't slack off, you'll do well in his class, and you'll grow as an artist.

enough with the bashing gosh. the only reason i can imagine someone giving alan a poor review here is if they were a slacker. and if you are a slacker, why the eff are you an art major? yes alan uses big words--not that difficult to follow people. he's really effective and understanding. be respectful, ask questions, and do your work. WOW

Alan is afraid to hurt your feelings when he critques you, making it hard to know what he wants. also, his wording and vocabulary was so above our class' head that a lot of us really had to strain to understand what the hell he was trying to say and in that sense, i feel that he is an ineffective teacher. so unless you have esp, take someone else.

Arrogant and extremely opinionated. A lot of contemporary artists think they are so open-minded, yet they condescend any style other than they're own.
