I worked in her lab and she was a real jerk. She is insecure about her knowledge and attacks anyone who challenges her. She is prejudice and should be fired.

I enjoyed prof. Cohen's class. She grades exactly what she lectures on (her ppt). Her tests only get harder since they are cumulative. She's not rude or condescending. I think people feel that way because if she asks questions and people don't know the answer, she becomes disappointed and it shows. There's a lot of info, so u can't cram.

One of my favorite biology professors. The class itself was great considering I could honestly care less about plants before taking this class. Cohen makes the class interesting with her lecture and really does her best to get the class involved. Be prepared to participate in class . Posts lectures ahead of time and gives updates constantly.

The review is for the class. She is a great teacher. I thought she would be the same when working in her lab. I was wrong! She is a completely different person; a jerk to everyone in her own lab! I stayed less than a year in her lab and moved on to a professor who knows how to treat people with respect. DO NOT join her lab. You will regret it.

I was just looking at the reviews and had to chime in. I took BIOL 445 with Dr. Cohen in Fall 2012. I think some of the reviews indicating she is condescending or disrespectful are off the mark. She does push you, but because she wants you to be the best you can be. She cares. She works hard for you if you work hard for yourself!

I strongly recommend taking someone else if you can. She's a good teacher and she is fair, but she made the class miserable. She is very defensive when you ask a question. Office hours are mandatory for participation points but she just makes you feel dumb when you go. If you take her, do not challenge her or she will hate you all semester.

She is fantastic professor, though this is still a really difficult class. She is GREAT at responding to questions over emails and in office hours. Be prepared for class EVERYDAY or you will be lost. Read the book, take notes, study the diagrams. You will need the book for this class.

I enjoyed this class; Plant Cell Physiology. While the material was challenging, the professor worked hard to present it in a clear and understandable manner. She had comprehensive PP lectures and provided study guides for exams. She gave extra credit on quizzes and in class assignments. She was helpful in office hours and posted grades quickly.

The material was easy. She lacks in her ability to care about her students. Makes rude remarks when someone asks a question. Feels she is always right (saw this in lecture), not helpful for students who need answers and who woll not approach her due to her negative nature. Avoid taking a class from her. Biology is fun and she will ruin it for you.

The negatives are: she is condescending towards students, and discouraging thoses from visiting office hours. I feel she wants to be helpful in her own way, yet being disrespctful is not the way to go. Probably has heard the same silly questions over years, regardles, it is still her job to be sensitive to students.

tests are tricky, ambiguous and misleading. grading is ridiculous in that she takes off points like 1.33. when you ask her about grades, she doesn't define her rubrics. instead she tells you that "your work simply wasn't quite all there." when students ask questions, and she is stumped, she cuts students off and seem offended. she says she welcomes

Print out the powerpoints and take notes. Reading is a must to be able to understand materials fully and to answer some questions on quizzes. 3 exams (multiple choice, short answer), quizzes (about 11), tiny h/w assignments, some extra credit opportunities, in-class assignments. Pay attention in class, read, you'll be OK.

She was by far the best professore i have ever had. Her powerpoints were very helpful, and she really encouraged students to come to office hours if you need clarity. Althought her Homework was useless sometimes, all the quizes and PP really helped when it exams time came around.

Her tests are ambiguous and regurgitation from lecture. She grades her tests with an iron fist, but she nice in person. I didn't learn much more in this class than my BIOL 309 & 472A classes.

She really cares her students to learn and requires lots of creativity that I did not have from other science classes. If you are interested in going into biotech or research career, this class can be extremely helpful! She organizes her class well and always willing to help 24/7 through e-mail.

Good teacher, but the grading was retarded. Subtracting .125 of a point off a problem?
