Comment:
She's the chillest professor at W&M, extremely helpful, and a very fair grader. I never felt stressed about anything in the class, and if you practice drawing trees throughout the semester (seriously, don't put it off), you'll be fine. I'm genuinely upset that a) I didn't have her for Study of Language and b) that she's retiring. She'll be missed!

Professor Reed is a great teacher and an even greater person! She is always available to help you out with anything and her knowledge about linguistics is extensive. I LOVE her sense of humor! She may be old, but her wit has not aged one bit :) Too bad she's retiring...everyone should have the chance to take one of her classes!

Professor Reed is wonderful. She is so nice and knowledgeable about her topic. She is incredibly accommodating and laid-back and does her best to make class worthwhile. I've taken several classes with her, and she is probably the nicest and one of the most helpful professors I've had.

Great professor. The only problem I have with her is that she tends to make her assignments somewhat vague (part. in her topics classes). She's very understanding and flexible, though. She's one of those professors who will really go the extra mile for you. :)

Took Study of Language with her. She is great. Has a keen sense of humor, and though she acknowledges that the material CAN be confusing, she addresses that and remedies it. Very talented, very engaging. Highly recommended.

Prof. Reed is so fantastic. She really knows her material and is clearly passionate about the subject. She goes out of her way to make sure every single student understands what's going on-- although it would be hard not to, since she teaches so wonderfully. I'm picking up a linguistics major because of her!

Talented professor teaching an interesting but woefully unexciting subject. She acknowledges the dullness and tries to make it better. Very helpful outside of class.

Poor prof. Reed. It isn't her fault that she's good at the most BORING thing ever! I have my degree in linguistics, but I'll be damned if I would willingly do syntax again! She's so sweet though, and she does at least try to make in interesting.

While I didn't really enjoy her classes, when I chose to just let the class go and missed a test, she let me complete the class over winter break for a passing grade anyways.

Very nice lady and extremely helpful, always available after class to answer questions. Lectures are at times very hard to follow, which makes studying for tests impossible at times. Test questions are really hard, but she grades generously. I had no clue what was going on the ENTIRE class and ended up with a C+. A challenge, but prof makes up for

Softspoken, very nice. Class can be a little boring at times, but she is very knowledgable and understands that not everyone is so enthralled. Lots of hw exercises, but little reading; tests are a bit vague but not too hard, kinda subjective grading. Very kind and will give lots of extra help. REALLY interesting course if you like language at all

Pretty easy overall...Tests were a little vague. Remembers that not all students are enthralled with linguistics as she is. Willing to answer questions. Overall, she's a pretty good prof.

Very well-versed in her field. Also willing to answer any questions which may be raised. On the other hand, tests were rather open-ended in some cases. Altogether, a very interesting class, though.

Comment:
Descriptive linguistics isn't 'taught' so much as 'guided', so I can't really judge her easiness. But she's very nice and very willing to help, and keeps it from getting too boring.
