Comment:

Professor Contos is nice and she does care about improving your essay skills. However, this class was one of the hardest I ever took. She is an extremely hard grader on essays, she will mark you down for little grammar mistakes or more. A rewrite on an essay barely boosted my grade. There were no finals, 5 essays in total and some quizzes.

I did not get out with a single new information from this class. She is a tough grader with no clear grading criteria. If the way of writing is not how she likes even though it is grammatically correct she'll still mark you down. The class was no use.

Good teacher, tough grader! 5 take home essays and 1 in class. No exams. She does not provide your grade until after the semester is over, even If you ask. However, you can forecast your grade by taking your average total on the essays.

Definitely, an english class that was worth it. Very clear structure of the class! Loved it. I got to learn a lot. Tip: ask for essay samples to get an idea of what she wants. I got above 90 percent for all 5 essays. She's a decent grader

I have never enjoyed an English class more in my life. Professor Contos is so precise and clear with what she wants from you. The Adios book assigned for class is so interesting you'll voluntarily read it. Honestly one of the most caring, nice, and knowledgeable English professors out there. 100/10

Extremely good English teacher. Best English teacher I ever had, shed light on many of the questions I have had for many years. A little bit hard if you aren't amazing at English, but she marks your entire paper red to show you all your mistakes.

Contos is cool but if you don't show up she takes note and deducts it off your grade. The whole class is mainly essays, 5 max with one in class essay. If you know how to write you'll pass easily, if you're a procrastinator there more chance of you failing i.e. me. Just do the readings,show up,and take advantage of her rewrites!!

If you want a class based off of attendance, hard essay grading, and long complicated lessons, this is the class for you. The rewrites never gave my grade a boost, nor did I know my grade unless asking or emailing her. Everything is done through email and classes are a bore.

Pros: - she gives one chance to rewrite 4 out of 5 essays. - fair amount of time for essays - easy grammar midterm Cons: - she is not good at explaining things. When I ask her questions, her answers don't help much. - she doesn't use blackboard. she recorded grades incorrectly for me at least once

4 take-home essays (including 1 big research paper as final), 1 in-class essay, progress reflection after each essay, rewrite for up to 10 points, some in-class writing (usually paragraphs), 1 grammar mid-term (pretty easy). Cons: Professor Contos usually gives a B on essays. No extra credits at all. Pros: Expectations are clear. She is helpful

Professor Contos is a great professor, clearly passes all the information you need to know. She will always help you if you have any questions, and she gives a 5 points extra for any essay rewrite that you will make after its been graded (the rewrite is easy since she tells you what your mistakes are when she's grading it).

Contos' class is extremely easy. Really, you only need to show up and do the essays. the essays are not hard what-so-ever. She also allows optional rewrites for every essay and you can get up to 5 points extra. I highly recommend this class, especially if you have a difficult time in eng. do the rewrites!! extremely easy A.

Contos is literally AMAZING. I spent years avoiding the necessary english classes needed to graduate, English and tons of writing scared me. I was intimidated. Glad I chose her, I love writing now. Best thing a teacher can have is passion, she loves what she teaches and her energy and enthusiasm rub off and make the subject interesting. TAKE HER

I think she is a nice woman but overall would not recommend. Essays are 85% of your grade and we wrote essay #4 without even getting essay #2 back. How am I supposed to know what to fix if I don't get to see her corrections and suggestions beforehand? Also, she doesn't have a website so you better remember the assignments.

Professor Contos is the best! She knows a lot, and does a great job communicating what is expected of you on each essay. Getting a B shouldn't be too hard, but if you want to get an A, be prepared to do some work. Definitely the teacher to take for English 100!

Comment:

Super awesome and sweet teacher! She is extremely helpful if you are unclear on something. Some quizzes And one midterm test. A total of 6 essays, 2 in class and one being the research paper which only needs to be 4-6 pages. She encourages you to be creative with the papers. I learned a lot from her. Great teacher. Just get all the work done on time and keep up with all the assignments and you should pass. Don't take if your trying to do nothing.

best professor. 3 take home essays, 3 in class essays, one midterm and few essay quizzes. the quizzes have only a few points and the midterm is super easy grammar test so dont worry about them. you will work hard and get an A. in fact I'm an international student and been here for only a year but i got an A. not easy but really helpful. take her!!!
