Professor Finlayson-Pitts is an outstanding professor. The chem department at UCI is good to their students and nobody takes this to heart more than Barbara. If she thinks your worth it she will do what she can to help you in your scientific career. Chem 152 is tough but you will learn how to write scientific papers.

Tips: Review your homework and you'll ace the quizes. Lab reports are tough but don't stress over it.She just want's to see that you'll be able to follow the guidelines she gave you (I received 50% roughly on all of my lab reports). She tells you briefly what is going to be on the exams-"very similar to the quizes". Overall, she was awesome.

This is the most difficult and time consuming undergraduate chemistry course offered at UCI. It's an easy 30-40 hrs of work per week factoring in lab, lecture, discussion, and writing lab reports. Straight scale. Very interesting material and experiments however, using some really cool experimental techniques.

She intimidating to her staff, she uses and steals ideas and makes it look as it comes from her head. You have to explain every little detail to her since she simply is not capable to understand atmospheric chemistry.

Absolutely awful. Butchered some of the most basic concepts in chemistry with muddled, confusing explanations. She gives miserable examples, and reschedules the online homework without notification, because she can't keep her lectures on schedule. Expect to run overtime almost every day by 5-15 minutes, and be 2-3 weeks behind other G-chem sections

She is a great professor and the only reason why people didn't like her is because they didn't go to class. All you have to do to get an A is go to lecture and discussion and study her Midterm and Final study guides because they are exactly what's on the test. She's kind of boring but worth the A.

One of the most horrible professors i've ever had. Her class isn't curved, which sounds okay at first... but then you take her tests and realize that she's nuts and can't teach at all!

She is WONDERFUL. She was the first chemistry teacher that actually used REAL LIFE examples to explain the big picture of the chemistry going on in the text books. She is fair, interesting, and entertaining (brings in props like tennis balls and balloons to explain concepts) I absolutely LOVED her!

You have to teach YOURSELF. She is one of the many professors at UCI that know what they're talking about, however they can't teach worth anything. Her tests are hard and cover material that isn't discussed in her lectures.

What I liked most is everything that was on the test was either completely discussed in lecture or by the TA, nothing was pulled out of thin air. By far the tests were easier then the other professors.
