He is sort of a good professor, but definitely the rudest person I have ever met. My entire class disliked him because he was disrespectful to us, especially students with accents. A girl was struggling to answer his question and he went off for about 2 minutes about how she was going to spend the rest of her life working at McDonald's. DON'T TAKE!

Comment:

Literally the coolest professor ever. Will be very understanding with you and keep the class very motivated. Requires you to be LOUD and CLEAR. This professor is never cranky, he is very humerus. Offers tons of extra credit all semester long if you miss any days. If you miss a speech day you will not get an A. Couldnt be more happier.

Follow directions, to every detail and you'll be fine. It's the class where you need to speak LOUD and CLEARLY, also because the teacher is hard of hearing. He doesn't like mumblers, and he'll lecture you if you do it. If you ignore his crankiness, this class is easy to do.

Comment:

It's fair to say that Martin is similar to Simon Cowell in the sense that he's very blunt and direct with the critique he gives; however, he always means well. Martin knows what he's talking about, so show up with an open mind and listen carefully to what he says bc he's relatively strict. Paying attention> fun and good grades.

Ben Martin is a great professor and part of the reason is because he is genuinely a great guy. He knows what he is talking about and you will leave his class a better public speaker. He is very blunt but he has a heart of gold. Take this class to improve your presentation skills and overall communication skills

This class was a lot of fun for me and was really easy. He gives you the freedom to choose your own topics. All you have to do is follow his directions and speak loudly and clearly. He is quite understanding as well. Only requires a manual that costs $2.50.

Professor Martin made the class extremely enjoyable for me! If you follow his exact directions in EVERYTHING, you will receive an A. Make sure to start all speeches early because they do take a bit of work. Also, Professor Martin was very understanding when my family member went through a traumatic injury. He truly wants his students to succeed.

Speech 1 Fall 2012: I was nervous because I didn't think I was good at public speaking....he does nothing in the way of actually teaching you how to be confident besides watching example speeches and is VERY adement about following directions and using his outlines. Show up, ON TIME, follow directions, and you will get an A.

Great professor. He's tough, but FAIR. He knows what he is doing and he is VERY straightforward. Only 4 speeches, 4 outlines, and no tests (fall 2011). Attendance is a MUST. He tells you upfront what to change and what not to do. If you cannot handle criticism, then don't take him.

He's mean. He's too blunt. It's an easy B but an arduous A. Don't skip class and never be late. Be simple on speeches because he doesn't like flamboyance or a lot of character in speeches. He takes off points for it.

Doesn't have the greatest personality. Although it seemed like he would yell at you when he talked about your speech, he was helpful. He is somewhat of a tough grader, but there is over 100 points of extra credit that you are able to obtain to boost up your grade. There are four speechs in which you can get a B- for all and still get an A.

Really hated this guy in the beginning ittook the enitre semester for me to like this guy even a bit. I agree with the comment where he saiad he has anger issue. He constantly is yelling at the class calling us people. People do this!!!! Do that!!! he never has good to say only negative things. And he is a hard grader. Don't take him!!!
