What a man. Tons of reading, but a thorough perusal of Shmoop usually does the trick for the almost daily reading quizzes, which are 40% of your grade. No papers--you're only graded on reading quizzes, participation, the midterm, and the final. Basically, if you don't read or Shmoop/Spark Notes, you're not going to pass. Hilarious and entertaining.

There can be a lot of reading, but usually there is an audio-book version that helps speed up the process. It's usually best to do the reading because there most likely will be a pop quiz. If you don't have a good discussion about the reading, there is more work to do (so again, DO THE READING, it's not that bad). On the plus, he's really funny.

I found Pastoor to be a very hard critic and tough grader for a Comp II class. He wanted you to succeed but was more interested in pointing out your flaws than encouraging you. He also was not very organized and just came to class and winged it. His quizzes are easy if you do the reading and in-classs participation is required for a good grade.

I feel like every good review here was written by Pastoor himself. He was probably reading Updike at the time. He's kind of funny but also kind of a jerk. Take him.

Promised a syllabus from the first day of class but delivered two weeks before finals with a partial. Gave no instruction (even when asked) on the two papers assigned and did not return the first until after the second was due. Enjoyable dry sense of humor.

This was my absolute favorite class of the semester. Pastoor is dry and most people don't like him, but I found his style refreshing and appealing. I would take it again if I could, such a nice change from my boring business classes. When he says the final takes 2 hours, he isn't joking. If you get an A, you earned it.

Less reading than he could have assigned for a Literature class! His dry sense of humor made the content of this otherwise boring, depressing class (imo) bearable. He was even able to produce a few credible reasons for why this material might be valuable. Kudos. I hope he continues to teach that class so others may be so blessed.

Mast of Lit was one of my favorite undergrad classes, pastoor is quite funny (if you like dry sarcasm), entertaining, and very intelligent. He is clear and can make obscure literature interesting. His tests are hard but fair, no unexpected questions. His essay can be a bit challenging if you have to adapt to a new style, put extra work into those.

He's quite the introvert. That said, he is really good about facilitating discussion in class. Doesn't require a lot of work, but he is a difficult grader on the work he does require. For someone so tall, he has awfully narrow shoulders. Pretty easy to fall in love with.

His grading is tough but his criticisms are necessary. Bottom line if you write poorly, he will make you better. If you write well, he will make you excellent. He is very good at generating and directing class discussion while enlightening and interpreting the material. I plan to take his classes as much as possible.

Charles Pastoor may not be Jesus, but he is a blond, angelic dutchman. He is perhaps one of the most entertaining and knowledgable individuals I have ever encountered, and if you are able to tolerate his offhand criticisms in class and dry sense of humor, you will love having him as a professor.

Although he tends to find enjoyment in creating fake student ratings about himself, Mr. Pastoor knows about writing and teaches well. He keeps the class engaged while providing a good writing foundation for students. His grading is a bit hard, but he supports decisions and explains the reason for the given grade. His class will improve your writing

Pastoor is my favourite professor. I've taken a class with him every semester thus far and I intend to do so as much as possible. He has a great sense of humour and makes everything interesting. He's a wonderful teacher and I am actually sad if class is cancelled, which is not normal for me. Shakespeare was my favourite class I've ever taken.

By far the best professor I had in college. Has the incredible ability to make even the driest read interesting. Uses comedy in his thoughtful approach to a given text as a tool to help solidify it in students' memories, which makes very apparent the fact that he cares deeply for his students. And, let's be honest, he's not half bad to look at.

Comment:
Dr. Pastoor is absolutely ridiculous! Regardless of his teaching "ability", the fact that he doesn't care about his students makes him a HORRIBLE professor. His comments, whether about the text or students, are usually embarrasing, rude, and uncalled for! All of the comments on this site seem written by him. No one that I have talked to liked him.

Awesome. Amazing. What more can I say? Hated Shakespeare before, but now I love it and even teach it. I'd never had someone so competent and engaging explain it to me before.
