I really enjoy Berger's classes, and I took 4 of them since I'm a Comm major. Your average nerdy but lovable professor, I though he kept his classes interesting with his jokes & antidotes. All in all, my favorite professor in the department.

Comment:

Prof. Berger is a decent man and lecturer. He knows the material and wants students to learn. You need to go to class and read textbook/reader. "Construct Compendiums" aren't really useful - just study everything. He grades on a bell curve so grades are evened out. Could use some improvement, but overall a good professor.

Prof. Berger is FUNNY and a nice overall man :] I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot. His 3 M.C. tests ARE hard, but you just HAVE to read ALL assigned readings (and highlight) & HAVE to go to class. He uses an overhead w/notes but you MUST add your own sidenotes to help u! I got an A an all 3 tests, and ended up with an A in the class :]

I get all A's and seriously this is the hardest class I have ever taken at davis. I go to all lectures and I study but his tests are just so tricky that no matter how much you know, it's impossible to get a good grade. His multiple choice ?s are like "d. b and c" or "e. none of the above". Avg was 65% on the 1st test. cmn classes shouldnt be so har

There were definitely parts of the class that were interesting, but I feel like it could have been more so. Berger definitely tries to keep you entertained with his jokes. 3 exams, not commulative; 33% of your grade each. The mean on the first two exams were 28 out of 50 and 30, respectively. He grades on a bell curve, though, so it all evens out

he babbles alot trying to be funny. So hard to understand what he's talking about since he goes off topic alot. He really tries hard to be a comedian and doesnt focus on being clear with describing certain subjects. Dont trust his study guide. JUST READ THE TEXT! and there's so much reading too

Berger is really cool- don't bother getting the reader or even the book. Tests are mainly lecture. Go to every class & take good notes, he has overheads but tends to talk fast. Do xtra credit. I had this guy for 2 CMN classes. He is the hardest professor ever. I took the class P/NP and barely passed. I got a C. His lectures are very unclear and boring. I fell asleep everyday! Do not take him, you'll regret it.

Berger is a good professor. I learned a lot from his class. His lectures consist of overheads. Lecture material can be disorganized. Attend class since midterms are mainly from lecture! The reader is too boring and long. Don't bother getting the reader. Final is not cumulative.

Don't take him!!! Save your GPA! Tests are difficult and confusing, the highest grade is always a B, (but he does curve - though it doesn't really help much) he is a tenur, blah blah... so he thinks he is "all that". Take CMN134 with someone else or take 135! Berger needs to go... Beware!

Berger is a hotshot, when it comes to his theory. But teaching, I don't think so. He seems helpful in class, but wait until you stop by his office hours. He is an ogre! Tests are ridicuously hard, boring reading, dry lectures, dry sense of humor, he made an interesting class boring. Stay away!
