Great teacher that loves Biology. He has the most interesting stories and is quite the interesting man himself. Take good notes and attend class and you'll do well. No need to buy textbook.

Dr. Nelson is a very good teacher, he always takes questions at the end of sections when lecturing. However, I do recommend going to class every day and taking good notes because if you don't, you WILL do bad on the test. Don't get the book he teaches from his course packet.

He is a good professor and knows his stuff, but the class is tough, reflected by his weird grading scale (80-something to 100 is an A.) You will have to study a lot, and even when you know the notes backwards and forwards, he still manages to throw curve balls at you on tests.

Although he's one of the most prepared & concise prof. I've ever had, he is far from the ideal Freshman-level Bio prof. The level of detail he went into and expected you to know was borderline ridiculous. This is reflected in the fact he uses a different grading scale than normal, where an A = 85-100. LOVE Biology? Then you might like his class.

I thought Dr. Nelson was a pretty friendly person and he is willing to help, however, the class is really hard and I would recommend taking someone else. He does give extra credit quizzes and a few genetics problems that you can take home and get extra credit on which will help keep your test grades from being too low.

TAKE YOUR OWN NOTES. He sells his own book of notes but if you just go by that, you'll be lost. You should make an A or B if you go to class EVERY day and take good notes on his lectures. Studying is required. He is normally helpful if you approach him but doesn't mind calling you out in class if all you're doing is talking. Great teacher though.

Dr. Nelson is a straight forward teacher. He doesn't require you to buy a textbook, but you can buy his powerpoints with a practice test and study guide for about $25.Not an extremely hard class but you will have to study.He gives homework that is applied to your tests (this is the math section), so your tests are only 80% in class 20% out of class

8 a.m. class, be AWAKE! You MUST attend class for LOTS of test material. Study guide has wrong answers on prep tests-ALWAYS check answers with the book. The book is also a MUST! Extra credit quizzes added to exams. Only 6 out of 60 got an A. Exams on Powerpoint slideshow, not paper--if it goes too fast, too bad! WILL meet w/you in office hours.

Dr. Nelson presents Introductory Biology in a clear, well structured manner.He writes his own course outline manual which contains a general overview of what he lectures in class. His tests are very straightforward - but slightly difficult. To compensate for lower test grades Dr. Nelson adds all quiz scores as extra credit to tests.

Very nice person very good teacher. However, the material he covers in class is not what is on the test. He says you don't need the book. I don't know where he was getting ques from. Only 2 A's in the class. Choose another biology class. No matter how much you study there are random questions that are ridiculous.

He loves Biology and anyone can tell but he is really hard. He is a good teacher but the only class he teaches is @ 8am. So if you are not a morning person dont take the class b/c you wont wake up for the class. You will fail if you dont attend! DONT BUY THE BOOK, he has his own book of notes. Buy that instead it can be helpful.

You must pay attention and study to do well in this class! The test questions pay close attention to detail. The final is a killer! Quizzes given for extra credit on exams, which is very helpful.

This man gives the hardest tests I have ever taken, and he moves along very quickly. It's also hard to stay awake in this class. However, you get extra credit on every test, and I did learn a lot in the class.

Dr. Nelson is obviously a very smart man, but he's almost too smart. His teaching style just didn't really work for me. To his credit, his quizes count as extra credit on the exams, which definitely helps. The exams are HARD tho. And the final was a killer. good luck if you get stuck in his class.
