Comment:

Pretty easy class, but you need to go to class, his tests are taken straight from the notes. He is an easy grader and will give you partial points if he sees that you are trying. Aborn is a passionate prof and this was honestly my favorite class (even at 8am).

Comment:

Dr. Aborn is an amazing professor. He is very passionate about ecology and it shows. There are only 4 exams and weekly quizzes that are grades, gives study guides for each exam. He's a particular grader and will sometimes count questions wrong or half points if it is not his definition. Pay attention and take notes and you'll do fine.

Dr. Aborn is a great professor albeit a little awkward. He absolutely adores birds and you can tell anytime he gets to talk about them in lecture. He does elaborate more on his powerpoints in class so be prepared to listen to him while writing what is on the powerpoints. He tends to expect perfect answers on exams but he does give partial credit.

Dr. Aborn is really passionate about Ecology, so he's a pretty tough grader on his tests. Quizzes are simple if you study before class. But if you do poorly on one of his tests theres not much of a chance to make an A in the class because he doesn't offer drops/EC. Study more then just his guides because he includes things not on it.

Dr. Aborn is awesome! I took him for ornothology and he was a great teacher. Birds are kinda his thing so he got really into it which made the subject easier to learn. He is a tough grader on tests but its not impossible to get a good grade. And if offered go on the field trip instead of writing the paper!

Aborn is very helpful and is willing to go above and beyond to help you understand the material. I had him for Ecology this past semester and the only reason I made a C was because I work 40+ hours a week and am full time at UTC. I barely studied for the tests an still made over a 70 on them. His review sheets are very helpful. TAKE HIM!!!

This was Seminar I: A mandatory class for graduate school. Each student signed up for the date they would give a presentation covering the topic of their choice (as long as it was covering a scientific paper). Each student presented one time and we met once each week. We also brought food. We rated each other & Dr. Aborn gave the final grade.

Lab reports are graded to an unreal "standard". Also, he changed the rubric for the lab reports after the reports had already been submitted. He deemed this fair even though it obviously was not. Don't recommend.

Lab Reports are ridiculous. His grading for lab reports is very opinionated and he wants the reports in his own particular manner. Lab summaries are easy, be prepared to do plenty of calculations. The class is a ridiculous amount of work for a 1 hour credit class. Dr. Aborn is a really nice guy, just be prepared to write like a scientist to pass.

Only needed the book for this course for additional clarification or extra reading. Tests came completely from his notes. Took this class during Summer Semester 2012. It moved quickly (as all summer classes do). Enjoyed this class. Recommend for anyone. Dr. Aborn is a great teacher and always willing to help.

ESC 1500 was a pretty easy class. Attendance is not mandatory, he lectures and uses slideshows. He gives assignments periodically which are easy. He reviews before each exam. I would definitely recommend him for this class.

Dr. Aborn's a really great teacher. He explains things clearly, and it's not hard to get an A- easily the best gen ed science class. He even tells you that you don't need the book to save you a few bucks. He's a really nice guy!

Awesome teacher! very nice and helpful. tests are easy. The short answer and essay parts can be challenging, but most everyone got an A or B. DONT BUY THE BOOK! he doesn't use it at all!

His class was the easiest class that I have taken so far. Though it is not mandatory for you to be in class, all of his exams are straight from his notes. He does small writing assignments every other friday. take the time to get to know him, he is very knowledgable and helpful!
